Has anyone lived through a cancer diagnosis?

I have some symptoms of colorectal cancer. I am getting a colonoscopy in 2 1/2 months. I am nervous but somewhat at peace.

@kandy Thank you for sharing this. I'm sorry your mother passed from this.

My father was diagnosed with Leukemia over 10 years ago. He went on Chemo and eventually into remission. A year ago though, he was told he has skin cancer and has been on chemo tablets for awhile now and finds out in a coupe on months if he will need surgery to remove it or if the tablets have helped. The skin cancer is on his face

@Fluffybull I hope everything goes okay for you 🤗

@ZashaKitty It was my husband who was diagnosed with skin cancer but it was basal cell carcinoma which is the one with the best outcome. He treated it with a cream called "Aldara" which stimulates surrounding cells to fight the cancer. It was totally successful, it's a miracle cream 👏👏❤️

@Fluffybull sorry to hear about your husband. That is amazing news about that cream though. I am so glad He found something that helped him :)

A little over a year ago, I went in for a colonoscopy on Tuesday and Wednesday they called me and said I had cancer I went back the following week and had procedures. Three months later I went back and they told me after that colonoscopy that I was now cancer free. The good thing about colon cancer is it slow grow. But if it gets through the colon wall is when it gets real serious. Also now I have annual colonoscopies
I have 3 times

First,9rs ago was false alarm.. or should i say misdiagnosed..they said i had very good chance to have uterus cancer , but then said it was only hormonal.. but the reality wasi had pre cancer but they havent detected it

Second was last september when i was diagnosed with a uterus cancer, last November I had a completely and radical hysterectomy to remove the cancer. Thankfully I didnt need Radiation nor Chemo.. im now in remission

Third, after my hysterectomy, in december when i went to see my oncologist post surgery, he found I have a skin condition down low that if mot treated on time, chances are it will become cancerous... took 10 yrs before a doctor found it, they ysed ro tell me was allergi3s or a vaginitis, so now, im facing an uncurable cancer in my lady parts if the threatment dont work... so far..it doesnt..i guess till will tell
I was never diagnosed with cancer, but every colonoscopy I have had has shown "concerning polyps" and the doctors always decide to "wait and see."

The first colonoscopy I had was about 35 years ago.

So, don't worry yourself sick. 🤗
I was misdiagnosed with colorectal cancer for 4 months. When they removed the tumour it was benign. I feel like I had a very lucky escape. Stay strong and remember a lot of people have positive outcomes if it's caught early. ♥️🤗

Why the delay? Early diagnosis and treatment are the key. I haven't had to live through one yet -- although 3 biopsies of the prostate because of high PSAs -- but my late wife was a survivor of breast cancer. Couldn't beat lung cancer though (and the two were unrelated).

@dancingtongue Well I mentioned my symptoms to my new doctor. Maybe I'll call in to the scheduler and ask for a sooner date. Thank you.
Flowerz · 36-40, F
@dancingtongue Thank you. I called in for a closer date and got it set for January 6th.

@Flowerz Glad to hear that. Hopefully the exam will be negative. But a couple months of delay could be critically important if it isn't negative.

Yes - it was a big wake up call to create better health habits to make my body stronger and healthier to fight - I was lucky, able to get through with 3 surgeries and no chemo and thankfully OK now, but annual MRIs are always a reminder. You said you're at peace, that's really good, I can relate to that, I call it serenity...

Get the colonoscopy sooner. My wife had stage three colorectal cancer. Checking sooner could have made a HUGE difference in her treatments and overall life.

Do it now.
Flowerz · 36-40, F
@carpediem I actually called in and had it scheduled for yesterday. 2 polyps and hemorrhoids.
carpediem · 61-69, M
@Flowerz Good move. Glad you did that. That's a normal result. They'll likely test the polyps. Congratulations.

@carpediem Thanks a bunch!!
I finished my chemo in october. I was convinced I had it before I even saw my doctor about it. Once the process of diagnosing it started things moved very quickly. I have a pet scan scheduled for valentine's day to make sure I'm still clear.
I wish you luck!

Been having treatment for the last 2 years for bowel cancer it’s definitely a terrible journey if you have any questions or want to talk I’m more than happy to answer anything you might want to know

I had a colonoscopy in 2018. They removed several polups. My grandfather on my mothers side died of colon cancer long before I was born. I need to get another colonoscopy in next 2 to 3 years.

No. Here in the Canadian province I live in there is a Colorectal Cancer Screening Program and every year we’re required to test. Really removes the anxiety.
Happyheart1 · 31-35, M
The wait time is ridiculously long . I hope and pray that it’s not cancer . Hopefully it won’t be . Even if it is will fight it out

My husband was diagnosed and successfully treated for skin cancer in 2016. He was lucky in that it's the "best" skin cancer to get.
AllAboutLaffs · 70-79, M
Yup ... after surgery, radiation and chemo, I've been clear for 12 years ...

My friend was diagnosed with breast cancer stage 2

She went through chemo, had her breasts removed & a double breast augmentation. She’s doing well now
