What's going to curb all of the crime flooding the streets all over the country these days?

TinyViolins · 31-35, M
I guess it depends on the nature of the crime. Crime is a broad umbrella term that can mean anything from littering to murder. Each one is going to require a solution tailored to that crime

But speaking a bit broadly, I think a lot of crimes fall into two main categories: those that are economic in nature and those stemming from personal conflicts.

I think a lot of economic crimes (drugs, thefts, muggings) can be solved by alleviating the conditions that burden people economically. Poverty has been shown to cause stress, stress has been tied to poor emotional control, and poor emotional control makes people desperate to alleviate it. They don't care who their actions hurt because the spoils of their crimes are the only thing that makes them feel good.

And personal conflicts are tricky because they happen in real time and don't have the mechanisms to seek arbitration in the heat of the moment. The best solution seems to be preventative and proactive rather than reactive. How often do parents or teacher really show us about conflict resolution skills?

For me, I didn't even know conflict resolution strategies were a thing until my third year in college. It just seems like we don't really prepare people to deal with their frustrations so they end up inflicting their anger on other people whether they deserve it or not.
Hmmm. I expect lockdown enthusiasts predict more lockdowns?

@thewindupbirdchronicles it seems like the crime ticked up with the lockdowns.
@blindbob The inevitable conclusion of forced isolation with populations that are sometimes vulnerable?

More and more civilians are blasting perps . The media isn’t reporting it but it’s happening.
