Sir or Ma’am is used as a sign of respect, especially in the south and rural areas. For example, high school kids in the south will often use sir or ma’am even when talking to friends and peers. It doesn’t mean they think you’re old

Oh no 😫 I use sir and ma’am always. Regardless of age. I’m going to need to change that ASAP!

I get addressed as Sir at work...it used to feel weird earlier but I got used to it now.

🤔........Have you never been to Texas then?

@Jimmy2016 I've found women to love hearing ma'am. They inevitably say they wish they heard it more.
Of course you can still talk dirty and be polite. I'd like to think I have mastered it.😋

When someone calls me sir, I look around for my dad!

No miss, looking good..

SW-User
Yes ma'am.

I grew up in the south with family teaching me to say ma'am as a sign of respect, and moved to the north and kept keeping death glares whenever I used it 😂
Like, I'm sorry, I just meant to be respectful... just walk away before I make it worse

You do not need to look old for either title. I went to private schools and we had to address everyone properly with miss, mrs., ma'm, sir. I still do it even to the checkout girls at grocery stores no matter their age.
PhoenixPhail · M
It has nothing to do with age.
It's just customary for some people to address a girl of ANY age with Ma'am.

Nothing wrong with that, some people say ma’am to anyone. Lol 😂

I'd prefer that to Tannie, which means aunty in Afrikaans, makes me feel like a fossil 😵

SW-User
@SW-User Maar jy is mos a tannie.

SW-User
@SW-User not their tannie.
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
I've been called 'Ma'am' since I was like 35 lol

Miss would be fine 98% of the time but inevitably you'd get a feminazi go off on you
SpaceJesus · 41-45
Nah you don't look old. But I get it. I don't like being called sir haha
Lilnonames · F
Way better than sir lol
