Possibly a dumb question…

Ok, so I know this is likely a stupid question and yes I need therapy but, I am curious to pose it to the masses and hear the response.

In a relationship, friendship, co-worker or any situation that it applies, if you tell them that something that is a hot button issue and upsets you (not a hot button issue for them) and their response is you’ve done it to me a hundred times so get over it.

If I have done it to them even though it doesn’t bother them am I in the wrong?

yes, that's called hypocrisy. By the way if they are mentioning it, it does bother them
Marstar22 · 36-40, F
@Jackaloftheazuresand fair enough. I respect your opinion. However, said person never admits to any faults and everything is my fault.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Marstar22 yes and? two things can be true at the same time
Quetzalcoatlus · 46-50, M
If they try to gaslight your sensitivity then they are by definition insensitive to your feelings.
You're wrong to assume it didn't bother them i guess .. but they sound like an annoying jerk
Lostpoet · M
No, they should respect your feelings
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
Okay... this is a stupid question. If it bothers you and you willingly do to others, then 1). it's wrong and you are in the wrong; 2). it's an indication you have no or (close to none) empathy; 3). you probably can't be trusted.
Marstar22 · 36-40, F
@MarkPaul ouch. You don’t know me and I have more empathy than most. Especially more than said person.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Marstar22 I know you from what you have chosen to reveal about yourself. And, based on that I have given you my diagnosis. Isn't that what you wanted?
Marstar22 · 36-40, F
@MarkPaul yes it is. Thank you for your opinion
Jessmari · 41-45
You're assuming it doesn't bother them. Not everyone shows discomfort in the same way. This could be a fault of theirs keeping things in.

This pretty much where the golden rule applies.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
yes you're wrong to make an issue out of it. If they can handle it then you should be able to handle it as well
Marstar22 · 36-40, F
@Jenny1234 if I knew it bothered them I would make the effort to not do it. I expect the same
