Blocked for refusing to send a photo

I was inboxed by a woman 30 years my junior asking to be friends. I don't want to refuse anyone friendship so I accepted. She asked to talk on hangouts so I downloaded it to talk. Three days into the 'friendship' she asked me to send a photo. I wasn't comfortable with sending a young woman a photo of me so I asked her to wait a while. She immediately disappeared from chat and blocked me on SW.
I used to be on EP and made a couple of good friends there. Is this incarnation really so different?

🤷🏻‍♀️ this is so normal for me. I’ve been blocked by a number of men who got upset because I won’t send them a photo. I do the anonymity I have here, where I can be myself and feel a bit free. If all they care about is what I look like, they aren’t the type of person I want to talk to. Also, once you send one, they want more and more. I’m just not comfortable with strangers (who interestingly enough never share their photo, they just want mine) having a collection of photos of me. I’m not sure why that’s so hard for them to understand. 😂

@SomeMichGuy also thank you for the compliment 💕
@iamonfire696 You are welcome, and I agree that just because some random person asks for such photos doesn't mean he/she is getting them, should get them, has a right to them.

No one should expect such personal revelations on a social site.

@SomeMichGuy thank you 💕

That’s one behavior pattern of a scammer. They try to collect photos of people, and then use them to setup other fake social media accounts to try and spear phish others. Eventually they will make up some sob story and ask for money.

@travelguy01 [c=4C0073]i heard money .. the rest was bla bla .. money you say? 👀[/c]
After reading your reply I'll make sure I never share any pics of myself online. I had no idea they did that! @travelguy01
@BlondilyOld Trust has to be earned, not demanded.

me sending picture when some random weirdo asks for picture... 🤔

skybluesam · 61-69, M
LOL Is that copyrighted or may I use it if anyone else ever asks? @wildbill83
JerseyGal · 51-55, F
One of the red flags on any site is when someone asks for personal information.
Unfortunately, it'll never get better, only worse. 😔
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
That was a dude
skybluesam · 61-69, M
Their gender really wasn't important to me. I accepted a simple request for friendship but I think I knew from the start it was a scam attempt. How times have changed since EP. :) @Keepitsimple
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
@skybluesam people just want to get over on others. It’s a sick world these days.
zorroo · 56-60, M
@skybluesam she or he could be catfish, it became regular here.

I send these when that’s happens
Some people are predators who seek to get images to blackmail you. Not saying she was but be careful. She had an objective and left when her target seemed unattainable
skybluesam · 61-69, M
Thank you for confirming my suspicions. I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt.@Babylon

I was so patient with my ep best friend years ago got his picture only after about a year I think🤣
skybluesam · 61-69, M
I wouldn't even ask for a photo. I wouldn't have been so reticent to send one if it had been a year.. :) @Teachocolate
Teachocolate · 51-55, F
@skybluesam Actually I said something like if you are ready you can give me your smiling picture😅and he said ok but sending nothing lol.He has a unique personality that I admired and I really enjoyed talking to him.We are still talking now coming to 8 years😅
chrisCA · M
For me, that would have been a red flag.
skybluesam · 61-69, M
And the reason I refused to send one. @chrisCA
chrisCA · M
@skybluesam Do you know if "she" was actually a woman?
I know it's the internet and we all have doubts ,but how do you differentiate between a genuine interest to see a picture and a scammer ?
Isn't it natural to see the picture of the person you're talking to ?
skybluesam · 61-69, M
That is an interesting question and one that's difficult to answer. I think in my case I went with my instincts. I didn't let the fact that deep down I was flattered overcome my instincts. If they are genuine and worthwhile they will wait forever. A photo is only superficial anyhow. @Caleidoscope
@skybluesam Yeah ,one should go with their instincts, but it's a tough choice to make. Many can just loose a good friend while harbouring the doubts.
skybluesam · 61-69, M
If you lose them they weren't such a good friend after all@Caleidoscope

Sometimes, it's kind of creepy here. I had someone message asking for a picture of me and when I explained I don't share with people I don't know... He basically quit messaging.
skybluesam · 61-69, M
I am glad I posted this now.
I suppose I knew from the beginning it was dodgy. I just didn't want to reject a lonely soul without good reason. @SW-User

@skybluesam I have friends I have shared my picture with, but not random people I only see in my messages and not really on the site.

Bloody fluck
smiler2012 · 56-60
{@skybluesam] you did right to stick to your guns and not send it if it made you uneasy . some are very fickle on here and should not worry about being blocked as that is ther problem
ABCDEF7 · M
Looks like people have evolved into different beings in just few years.
skybluesam · 61-69, M
Why does everything seem to evolve into something worse? @ABCDEF7
ABCDEF7 · M
@skybluesam Maybe they are getting confused as to which they should identify themselves with. And everyone now asks for freedom for what they want to do, want to be, and want to behave like. Someone said it right, "Half knowledge is more dangerous".
skybluesam · 61-69, M
Too much choice is almost as bad as none perhaps.
"There's nowt so queer as folk”, as they say in Yorkshire. @ABCDEF7
R5000 · 41-45, M
You are lucky you got blocked before he asked for your banking details.
skybluesam · 61-69, M
One of the great things about not having any money is it makes it difficult to get scammed :) @R5000

People are scared because there are so many fakes here .

@assemblingaknob oh never give those out

Count it a blessing she's gone. She sounds like trouble.

Welcome to social networking.

I don't do social networking. At least I thought I didn't :) @PhaqueYou
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
She wanted your gwala.
skybluesam · 61-69, M
I presumed one of my face..Maybe she wanted to put it on the mantle to keep the kids away from the fire :)
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
@skybluesam Uh no…he wanted your dick pic
skybluesam · 61-69, M
He was out of luck. I'd need a telephoto lens for that :) @Keepitsimple
