If you accidentally step on a snake while sprinting, could/would the snake successfully bite you in the time it takes for you to sprint past it?

Given the reaction times a snake would require to save itself from eagles or hawks, it seems almost inconcievable that the snake wouldn't be capable of biting you in time, at least if it saw you coming.

@BlueVeins i feel like if it saw me coming it would move out of the way...at least I hope. I don't think snakes pick fights with humans.

I'm more worried about accidentally stepping on one. There's a good bit of snakes out where I sprint at

@SW-User I think you're correct, but it's not inconcievable that the snake could feel trapped for some reason, or possibly lay low to try and avoid detection.

@SW-User also, snakes don't see well so it might not have time to escape.

I did step on a snake once while hiking. It seemed terrified and immediately slithered away into the bushes.
SW-User
@SW-User you think a copperhead would react the same way?
SW-User
@SW-User Probably not. I got lucky. This was a small, skinny thing I encountered in the Santa Monica Mountains. If it had been a rattlesnake or something more aggressive, that might've been more of a problem...
SW-User
@SW-User I've been considering ankle guards or something.

Highly unlikely. You’d have to be unlucky.
SW-User
@ButterRobot how so?
ButterRobot · 51-55, M
@SW-User your covering a few meters second while sprinting. To get bitten it would need to have it’s head angled in your direction and be already in a position to strike. And even then I doubt it.
