If you accidentally step on a snake while sprinting, could/would the snake successfully bite you in the time it takes for you to sprint past it?

I did step on a snake once while hiking. It seemed terrified and immediately slithered away into the bushes.

@SW-User Probably not. I got lucky. This was a small, skinny thing I encountered in the Santa Monica Mountains. If it had been a rattlesnake or something more aggressive, that might've been more of a problem...
