We didn’t either, but we had a library in our town.

@JustNik I always used the library as an excuse when I wasn’t allowed out 😊

@BalmyNites They can’t say no to that without feeling like they’re breaking a rule of parenting. 😂 Mine were hesitant to let me get a job so I applied for one at the library. 🤣

@JustNik It was my Grandmother, so she was always a big softie & I’d just tell her it was for homework purposes - I was such a model pupil lol (not!) 😂
Oh wow, that’s ingenious babe! 🤣

I grew up in a house without books. I read everything I could get my hands on. I have a degree in literature.

That is sad to me :( We had a whole library in our house and books were around on various shelves throughout. Not surprised I developed a love of them.

I know that feeling. Now I know people whose most pressing issue is that they need another bookshelf or two to fit everything. What a world.

I didn't either.. I admired the books in my cousin's house - they never read them but I loved and envied the presence of them..

So change it now

@octoberthesixth Lovely, do you have a favourite author? 😊
octoberthesixth · 31-35, F
@BalmyNites Khaled Hosseini, Paul Auster, Paulo Coelho, Hugo, Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, Primo Levi (haven't read anything by him yet but I heard he is a great writer) Jane Austen, Oscar Wilde and many others...
BalmyNites · F
I did, but I bought them all.

My grandmother was always giving them to me. It's funny now that I think about it I don't remember her giving any to either one of my sisters.🤔

Library?
BalmyNites · F
@Thevy29 Ahh, I SO get that - I’ve a Kindle & never used it, not even once! 💜
I must admit, I’m quite precious about my books now & don’t like lending them out, because people just don’t take care of them
I can sell my study books as ‘New’, because you’d never be able to tell that a page had been read - yet the last book I lent to a ‘friend’ came back with coffee stains where she’d rested her mug & a broken spine, where the book had been folded back on itself 😐

@BalmyNites I know people who don't take care of books, its shameful behaviour. I wont even dog ear the pages of my books.
BalmyNites · F
@Thevy29 Ahh I so agree - I’ve still my books from childhood 💜
