Is heavy metal evil ?

I think dark and evil music is a satirical reflection of society. Slayer, ozzy, danzig, manson, back to the clasics like sabbath and alice. It's always the balance of being shunned and alienated compared to being above the influence of what your told to be and being prepared to point out things that you see as the crumbling of decency.

You have touched on a topic I was thinking about...not exactly the same but getting there. I was thinking about why we choose the music we do and how that works for or against us.
I don't think I'd say all heavy metal is evil, but it's not the type of music I listen to a lot. Mostly, I think the lyrics that go with any type of song can be a good or bad thing. I don't listen to a lot of heavy metal... just not my thing for the most part. I take a look at the message given with a song and also how it makes me feel when listening. I want music that isn't about negativity, but I do get my moments. lol

@SW-User i think the negativity helps with the frustration and anger. Just like the angst of grunge helped with feelings of alienation and isolation or the way sad songs help us relate to heartache and make us feel better. But that's just my opinion.
SW-User
@Notanymore I agree. I also know if I listen to negative or sad songs too much, I just stay sad or down instead of getting past things.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@SW-User i understand where you're coming from there.

Metal is amazing the feeling you get from playing it is euphoric
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@SW-User definitely.

@Notanymore [media=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFbdYvolxRM] my favorite song to play on guitar
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@SW-User that's awesome!
thepeculiarpanda · 36-40, M
Nope, not in my book. It's what keeps me going some days haha.

This pulled me through a lot of pain. Metal music is amazing tbh.
thepeculiarpanda · 36-40, M
@Beatbox34 I love that song 🤩

People are always quick to label what they don't understand or like to be evil.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@SW-User you are correct
crimsoncloves · 31-35, F
Metal isn’t really my jam but you described exactly how I feel about all the punk music I listen to. I think that’s what’s at the heart of most similar musical subcultures.
The words tend to not be uplifting . Not my favorite type of music.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@Thedoorislocked understood and I certainly believe in to each their own
@Notanymore good question.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
I love the same bands too
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@Notanymore I know this sounds weird. They are soothing to me.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@Beatbox34 I think its the aggression and the passionate middle finger that our psyche craves, but society deems inappropriate.
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@Notanymore I agree

I'm really looking forward to the new Iron Maiden album
Early in the last century, jazz was evil too. Preachers claimed it was an addiction through the ears.
KuroNeko · 41-45, F
It's just angsty complaining lol

I loved it when I was 14
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@KuroNeko me too. I still dig nirvana and Pantera. 2 of the best ever at angst.
KuroNeko · 41-45, F
@Notanymore These days I can still appreciate it, but I can't say I identify with most of it anymore.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@KuroNeko i understand that. I still identify with the feeling. I identify with my past through it.....and honestly, just think it's better sounding to my ears than newer music.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
Of course it’s not evil
summersong · F
Nah smooth jazz is evil. Metal is fine.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@summersong ren and stimpy introduced me to jazz in my formative years. I will always have a special place in my heart
summersong · F
@Notanymore oh proper jazz is amazing. Smooth jazz is an abomination.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@summersong is kenny g considered smooth jazz?
SW-User
Well....they do usually display satanic symbols. So, I would say yes. Plus that and rap is lower vibrating music as opposed to Mozart or classical being the highest
MaliaAgain · 36-40, F
Although you can get heavy metal poisoning, ii believe a sheet metal is the real villain
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@MaliaAgain hahaha.....I'll agree. As a ductwork guy, i think we should make a reform committee
OverTheHill · 61-69, M
I guess you've never heard of these guys:

Metal is life 🤘
FurryFace · 61-69, M
nope just a pain to listen too but old country is worse , lol
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@FurryFace two of my favorites
It’s never really been my taste, but I don’t find it evil.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
Nah
But there are some pretty fucked up people out there that write fucked up lyrics with messages I would categorize as evil. But that's not the mainstream. There is such a thing as "neo-NAZI bands" for instance, the message doesn't really become any better if you bring it with a drum and put a guitar riff behind it. But by itself, heavy metal bands aren't evil.

Believe in me, send no money
I died on the cross and that ain't funny
But my so called friends they're making me a joke
They missed out what I said like I never spoke
They choose what they want to hear, they don't tell a lie
They just leave out the truth as they're watching you die
They're saving your souls by taking your money
Flies around shit, bees around honey

Holy smoke holy smoke, plenty bad preachers for the devil to stoke
Feed 'em in feet first, this is no joke
This is thirsty work, making holy smoke, yeah
Making holy smoke

- Iron Maiden, Holy Smoke
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@Kwek00 but it's the satire that makes it. Rage against the machine are damn sure capitalist. They're using art and a platform to make themselves super wealthy. They over exaggerate to point out inequities in the system. Just like danzig did or slayer or marilyn Manson. they gonto extemes as art to highlight how society is crumbling.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Notanymore Their lyrics, aren't really promoting liberal society as most western countries experience it today. I have no clue what they do with their money, I'm not talking about how they as artists function within this society, I'm talking about the message that hides inside the lyrics.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@Kwek00 absolutely it's aggressive and beyond extreme. But it's art, exaggeration of the problem and solution. just whatbart is supposed to be.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
It’s not evil but I like music you can dance too.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@iamonfire696 that's awesome. I never really got into electronica myself, but it's an interesting way to make a sound
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Notanymore I love it. Some of my favourites are Avicii, Martin Garrix, David Guetta, Tiesto, Calvin Harris, illenium, Diplo, Galantis and Steve Aoki. Off the top of my head lol.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@iamonfire696 i will need to do some research on that!
