Today I watched Samuel L. Jackson in, "A Time To Kill"

I bawled like a baby, such a tragic reminder of our insidious history of racism in this country. Fueled even worse now from Trump's cult of hatred. At least it has both a hopeful and happy ending.
I love Sam Jackson.
@DarlingSelah I do too. A real departure from his usual dark portrayals.

Wasn't it a bit of a controversial ending?

@Grateful4you Why did you think it was impossible for him to win?
@Kwek00 I thought the jury was overwhelming in their plan to find him guilty. I was floored.

@Grateful4you I see... I thought your answer would be: "the man killed another man, while everyone was watching... there was no doubt that murder was actually commited and the state doesn't agree with people taking the law in their own hands". I thought that would be the answer honestly, that's also why the jury is taking a controversial position here. Maybe I need to watch it again, not really sure what the complaint was, but yeah...
well it could be worse thank goodness it doesznt include your uncle molestering you to

The James Bond film? He's in that? I didn't think he'd be old enough.
@Allelse Not at all. It's about the horrors of racism in the deep south.

@Grateful4you OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Right, now I know the movie. With the klan on the loose.
@Allelse Exactly right. Glad you caught on.
It is an enjoyable movie, but as a statement about racism it gets on my nerves.
The focus is all on the white characters. Matthew McConnaghey is treated as a White Saviour

And that whole scene of the child being raped and "imagine that she was qhite" really bothers me.
@InOtterWords Sorry you felt that way. I think it's a great lesson for younger folks who have never seen this tragic side of American history.
