What type of paint should be uaes to paint a plastic lamp?

Obviously heat resistant but also I'm not sure what type of plastic it is... Will any heat resistant paint do?

Is this for the base or the lampshade? Painting the lampshade will reduce the amount of light coming off of it, and essentially turn it into a spotlight. If that's what you're going for, that's fine, just something to be aware of.

Otherwise, I'd look for a plastic-safe spray primer (easy to find at the hardware store) and paint on top of that. Acrylic-based paint is plastic friendly, but if it's not primed first, it'll easily peel and flake off.

@FaeLuna plastic top & base, one if those desk lamps with bendable middles... like a spot lamp! No shade as such so won't obstruct the light... but yea will check out my local hardware store... thanks!

@BondGirl84 Oh, one of those lamps! Yeah, you should be fine. I would just be careful when spraying not to get it on the internal components. Take it apart if you can and just put it back together when you're done painting!

You have to rough up the surface a bit with some sand paper or your paint may peel right off.

Might be better and easier to just buy one, painted plastic doesn't usually look good unless it's a good quality spray, definitely not with a brush.

@BeerMonster was gonna buy one but my parents had it to spare, proper old fashioned style with I like but not the colour lol will look into spray paints... thanks!

@BondGirl84 As someone else said, use a very fine sandpaper to prepare the surface, then a coat of primer and you should get a nice finish with a spray.
Post a photo of it before and after please :)

Look on Pinterest, think I saw something on there about painting lampshades.

Use an LED bulb in it. They don't get very hot...
