Democrats, you can't ban someone from holding office just because you disagree with their politics. That's what elections are for.

I'm pretty certain that over there like over here, if a candidate was implicated with an attempt to overthrow democracy, said candidate could/should indeed be banned.

@MalteseFalconPunch That's not what impeachment is for. It was never intended to be used that way.

@LoveTriumphsOverHate "Impeachment is a constitutional remedy addressed to serious offenses against the system of government. It is the first step in a remedial process— that of removal from public office and possible disqualification from holding further office. The purpose of impeachment is not personal punishment; rather, its function is primarily to maintain constitutional government."
"The House and Senate have the power to impeach and try an accused
who has resigned. Deschler Ch 14 § 2"

You can thank the founding fathers for setting the impeachment and removal that’s meant to ban Presidents who commit impeachable offenses from holding office again.
@Spoiledbrat You have to listen to the entire speech in context.

All speakers.
What Trump said in the years, months, and esp. post-election time leading up to it.

The interpretation that he "just" asked them to walk there is disingenuous.

They were not just carrying signs. And they had pretty blatantly planned to do harm.

Feel free to vote for & support Fascists if you desire, but don't claim such vast ignorance that you will use the hair-breadth of wording which supports that interpretation to try to hide from the mountain of statements to the contrary.

Just be honest: if you like Trump, you like Fascism and you don't want democracy. It's ok to have that opinion, but just be clear and honest and open about it.

If you don't want Fascism and you do want democracy, then you need to rethink supporting Trump.

Because the Republicans refuse to separate from Trump, I find them to have no moral, ethical, or any other authority. I will never vote for a Republican ever again for any office above...well, my local Township, perhaps. But never for any office at the State or National level. They have turned their backs on democracy and I shun them.
I’m not talking about what the citizens did. I already said that. I’m talking about what president Trump said. 🙁 I said that too. @SomeMichGuy
@Spoiledbrat They are connected (what the people did and what he said).

And, as I said, Trump did not merely say "take a walk",but you would know that if you had either watched his entire speech or read a transcript of it.

If you missed the very excellent recap of the second impeachment trial, it is worth reviewing.

But, come on. If you had a group of angry ppl at your door, followers hanging on your every word, with pitchforks & torches and you told them to go to the castle, what do you think might happen?

I agree. I don't think that's why people want Trump banned. I'm sure you're intelligent to know what people who disagree with you think, and it's a lot more more than 'we don't like his political views so let's ban him.'
@Abstraction Exactly. A guy who has helped to try to overthrow the Constitution he swore to defend...smh

@SomeMichGuy It should be an easy one to figure out. People who don't believe in democracy shouldn't be allowed to hold office in a democracy.
@PrincessAwesome Well, that is far too obvious & logical to be what happens here. 😣

I am glad your buddy got banned and I do hope the election was stolen so he quits making up shi*
PrincessAwesome · 22-25, F
Not true. Anyone can be banned from holding office.
You can't beat impeachment power.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
Nobody's banning anybody. ☺️

@Spoiledbrat doesn't matter, that's what elections are for. Politicians lie all the time. If that were the case, 90% of them should be banned, lol.

@LoveTriumphsOverHate The lying of DJT was far more than the average recent Pres. It was documented until sthg like summer of 2018 by a guy at the Toronto Star who had kept a database of lies, very complete in context & count, for a number of years (he left to go be a fact-checker at a network).

Trump *started* by being about twice the liar of other recent Presidents, then it shot up during Muller...

And he is part of the true cancel culture, the people who pretend real facts do not exist if they are inconvenient.
