Cancel or Call-Out Culture

Something called 'cancel culture' was mentioned in Australian media today. I'd never heard of it. Does anyone perpetrate it, or has someone experienced it. I suppose I could call being barred from the Whirlpool forums for daring to support free and open discussions on socially contentious topics an example of it.

I've also heard it called "outrage" culture, and I don't get it. I think that some people, in a virtue-signaling move, agree to pile on said person, irrespective of any and all positive contributions.
