My advice -- consider a pepperball gun if it's for personal protection. Much less danger and very effective for getting you through emergencies.
Chelsiegirl · 46-50, T
@BlueVeins I have pepper spray.. Ill look into that. I dont want to kill anyone. i dont want that kinda of drama.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Chelsiegirl Yeah, between the gun and the spray, it really sounds like the spray is the better choice for you atm but I think a pepperball gun MIGHT be a happy medium. Be warned tho -- pepperballs are only less-lethal weapons, not nonlethal, and can still kill if you're unlucky.

@BlueVeins i bet the person who breaks into my house has a food allergy

Go to a gun range and get some lessons and practice. Being a nervous or antsy gun owner is not good. Become a responsible one.

kodiac · 22-25, M
The big problem may be if you ever need to defend yourself with it if you hesitate even for a moment you could likely be killed by your own gun .Do you think you could kill someone with out hesitation ?So many people get killed when the offender gets the gun away from them .I say sell it you will be safer without it.
Chelsiegirl · 46-50, T
@kodiac I have no idea...
DallasCowboysFan · 61-69, M
Don't sell it.
But if it is too large, buy another one.
.380's and 9mm are relatively cheap.
Or, get a revolver.
Then you don't have to worry about the magazine failing to fee or jamming when it reloads.
Just my 2 cents.

@DallasCowboysFan thanks i was not planning on selling it. Ill prob go for a sw shield ez i have seen good revews on it
DallasCowboysFan · 61-69, M
The gun you have is a 40cal. That is a big round.
But you already have it.
Otherwise I would have suggested a 380 or a small 9mm.
Pop 2 in their chest and they aren't going anywhere.
But a 40 cal might go through your walls as well as your next door neighbor's house.
It's a shame they don't sell stun grenades or those strobe lights that flash a million times a second and will disorient someone.

What caliber? Most firearms have dummy rounds that you can purchase.
When I bought my first firearm, I loaded and unloaded that thing so many times with the dummy rounds. When I finally felt comfortable, I went to the range.
If you're just going to be afraid of it... get rid of it. The world will be a safer place.
My opinion... keep cleaning and practicing with it. When you're ready... take a lesson or a knowledgeable friend.

I highly recommend taking lessons from a firearms expert (not Mitchell the mighty militia man down the street). It's a great idea to be armed, but training is essential.

Just need to get your confidence up 🙂
But holding onto it if you doing want it anymore doesn't make it less of a waste
It uses up more of your attention

@Chelsiegirl You just bought it? Semi Autos are tricky for someone with no experience. You should trade it in for something like a Ruger LCR .357 with laser grips. A laser aimed at a person's chest usually changes their mind about bothering you. Its easier to shoot and load. But , if you are going to keep it...I would recommend buying a few laser snap caps. They are fake bullets that have a laser pointer in them. When you pull the trigger (actually cock it and shoot the laser shell) it shines a quick flash on where it would have hit. Teaches you how to pull the trigger to get accuracy , because that is where most have a problem. I have carried for years. I carry a Glock 23 (.40) . Im sure one of your friends knows about guns and can help you get familiar with it and take you shooting.
Chelsiegirl · 46-50, T
@TexChik ok thanks ill look into the lazer snap caps... The guy sold me on the gun. i think he was trying to make sale.
TexChik · F
@Chelsiegirl SW makes a great pistol. There is nothing wrong with it. The grips are a great shape for smaller hands.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
Start going to the range and learn how to use it safely. You’ll be fine.
Chelsiegirl · 46-50, T
@QuixoticSoul the gun safety course is full for now

@MarmeeMarch I dont know why i bought it. Maybe since i could.

I grew up in a neighborhood with gang violence so I personally dislike guns.
Chelsiegirl · 46-50, T
@latinbutterfly I was in the navy. I really never liked guns and a bunch of friends were talking about there and got me to get one to go to the range with.
ScarletWitch · 31-35, F
Best to keep it since people are going crazy now.
Chelsiegirl · 46-50, T
@ScarletWitch thanks i agree. I bought a smaller calaber one.. so much better now.
raysam363 · 31-35, F
The best way to get over fear is to understand it. Learn about the gun, it can't hurt you if you don't make it. Also leave it unloaded, check the slide/hammer before examining it, and the worst you'll do is drop it on your toe.
Chelsiegirl · 46-50, T
@raysam363 I wont load it till i know more about it.
raysam363 · 31-35, F
@Chelsiegirl Simple as that. It's not gonna come out and get you. Also invest in a trigger lock if you wish (I think some areas require it). And never leave it loaded or cocked, keep the safety on at all times, really not much to it.
AbbySvenz · F
I’d worry more about hurting someone else 😕
Chelsiegirl · 46-50, T
@AbbySvenz this is the 1st handgun i have ever owned..
