If you're referring to newly printed money I know the answer.
The super secret formula for the dyes that go into those tiny threads and the print contain certain non oxidized and oxidized metals.
Those metals, which lack certain numbers of atoms react with human skin perspiration and leather billfolds. (to add those missing atoms.) This forms a trace compound that's similar to but very slightly like one of the components of human perspiration.
Which at those trace levels, are very attractive to the human olfactory senses.
Old money eventually becomes so permeated that it softens up like a thin layer of fragile cotton, heavy with those extra atoms. By that time the odors are too strong for my liking.
I like new money. It's the best.

@calicuz Money isn't a great substitute for raw existence. Yea it comes in a very close second. Esp. if your not one to question fairy tales and laurel wreaths called official history pomp and circumstance, and self aggrandizement.
Probably that's why so many people have been known to sacrfice everything worth living for, everything worthy of love, and even themselves on the paper alter of materialism.
