I think I'm going to throw a few chicken breasts, some vegetables, spices, and some chicken stock in the crock pot so it's ready this afternoon.

Anyone else still use the crock pot?

We have one...I don't use it a lot but I have cooked a few beef roasts and other meals in it.
Tomorrow · 56-60, F
@indyjoe I did a roast a couple weeks ago.

@Tomorrow I cooked a deer tenderloin that my ex brother-in-law gave us in ours a few years ago.
on occasion. it's handy for quick prep.

@stound Its nice to just throw things in and let it go!
@Tomorrow a few things it does very well, a couple it's OK with, and quite a few that it can just turn everything into mush.

@stound Agreed!

We still do on occasion but since we're empty nesters and retired not so much anymore.
Tomorrow · 56-60, F
@SageWanderer Same. I usually freeze half or more to eat later.

I love using mine! Makes dinner much simpler on a busy night.

@FaeLuna It really does!

That’s where food and flavour go to die.

@SW-User Nah. The trick for roasts and things like that is to season well and get a good sear in an iron skillet to lock in the flavor and juices before you start the cooker. Soups are easy - the flavor remains.

I use my Crock-Pot to make chili.
Tomorrow · 56-60, F
@Byron8by7 I have done that but usually do it on the stove.

@Tomorrow I call my chili recipe "Cheater Chili" because all of the ingredients, except for the ground beef, come from cans (beans) and jars (tomatoes, salsa). I use 93% ground beef, and I just put everything in the pot, set it, and forget it for several hours. Easy peasy.

I do. A lot. I have a pressure cooker that can cook both as a pressure cooker or slow cooker.
Tomorrow · 56-60, F
@xixgun I have an Instapot as well. I use it sometimes too.
@xixgun I'm surprised that you have a pressure cooker. those tend to be more useful at high altitudes.
Tomorrow · 56-60, F
@stound It works well! Roasts, whole chickens, everything!
Laughman · 46-50, M
I use a slow cooker. Is that the same thing?
Tomorrow · 56-60, F
@Laughman Yes. It is! :)
Laughman · 46-50, M
@Tomorrow I don't mind doing that but now I never use the packets you buy at the shop to make the liquid for the slow cooker. They are way too salty. I just make my own liquid base.
Tomorrow · 56-60, F
@Laughman I do too! I cooked a while chicken the other day and kept the stock.
