How many years have you been at your place of work? Apart from the wage, what keeps you there?

I've been in my current position for about 7.5 years, but I've been with the organization for 28.5 years.

My salary isn't the greatest, but it's OK enough. The benefits are really, really good. I love the atmosphere — I came here to attend the university and just never left. Unlike a job out in the commercial world, we aren't faced with a constant pressure to make a profit or anything like that. The specific organization I work for, for example, has a large endowment that covers most of our expenses. Our just is to carry out our mission and not worry about things like that. The bosses are pretty cool, which is nice.

More importantly is that I'm at an age now where finding a new job would be problematic. Most places don't want to hire someone my age, and I'll admit that my skill set hasn't kept up with changes in technology as much as I'd like. So, for the moment at least, I'm secure here, and I hope that that continues until I'm ready to retire.

That sounds great. Long may it continue until you retire. @DunningKruger
