Why aren't you living up to your potential?

Do you [i]want[/b] to end up living in a van down by the river? 馃

Partly, I'm lazy, and always have been. Partly, I am introverted/shy to the point of having social anxiety, which was crippling back when I was young, which really gets in the way of networking. Partly, I have health issues that completely sap me of the energy needed to do the work, even stuff I'd really like to do. Partly, my wife has a variety of health issues that require my support constantly. Partly, I'm kind of perfectionist, so if things don't turn out perfectly on a project immediately, I kind of lose interest. All of these things contribute to chronic depression.

Really, though, it's mostly the lazy thing.

The total sum of all these things make a difference. It鈥檚 a big deal. All we hear is work hard, and you鈥檒l reach your potential. It鈥檚 more complicated than this, and millions of people work hard, to just survive. Hard work does not equal success or potential. It can, sometimes, but for many it does not. @DunningKruger
