Santa is a fictional character he can be anyone and anything, end of story
@wilderflower Just a reminder that those celebrating traditionally have the same rights .. sans all the labeling, judgement and condemnation if we aren't being PC enough.
@Stillwaiting And I didn’t say they don’t.
Pherick · 41-45, M
@Stillwaiting Just curious, did you see any comments here saying "Santa can't be an old fat white guy?"

Everything I read was people saying "Santa can be more than an old fat white guy" and people getting upset about that idea.

Or we can let Santa be Santa and stop trying to insert politically correct trash into something wholesome like Christmas. You should be able to relate to people as they are. If you feel the need to twist someone else into yourself to be able to appreciate them as a person then there is something wrong with you. I can't think of anything more narcissistic than wanting to constantly see and hear yourself.
@JoeyFoxx Okay boomer.

@RemovedUsername1042818 can you count your IQ in the number of words?
Pherick · 41-45, M
@RemovedUsername1042818 *yawn* Morning little guy, how goes it?

When 5 of them are standing around ,and kids ask which one is santa
I ain't gonna lie
I will say all of them regardless of gender or color
and all of them are a fictitious character
But the principle was based on a real man
then the pagans capitalized on it
and the Papacy said it was Christs birthday
They love lies and traditions

Want to serve Christ ,,give something in His name
don't look for something ,,thats my take on it
I don't expect gifts on someone else's birthday
I didn't teach my kids to expect them either
But I don't have a problem if they still have the traditional Christmas
I never forced my beliefs on them
Only one of mine has a tree ,but all of them serve the homeless at the mission ,then we have a family meal and sing praise songs until everyone is tired ,,its always a big turn out ,always a blessed time

And then I don't have to hurt anyone's feelings about the gender of santa
but if they ask ,I tell them why I don't keep the traditional holiday

Most people know the truth about the holiday now days anyway
but they love them presents ,,not the spirit of the season
but anything that can get people that normally act like they hate each other to come together and act like they care ,,I ain't knocking that part
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@rckt148 why aren’t there more hearts on this response.

This is the spirit of Christmas
rckt148 · 61-69, M
@JoeyFoxx I am not popular when it comes to sharing truth LOL
Penny · 46-50, F

@Penny This hypocrisy is one of the reasons why I’m an atheist.

Why does it need to change from this?
@DaveyWavey01 Nice try but it won't wash. Otherwise you would have just left the one comment and left.
@wilderflower you kept coming back with stupid comments and putting words in my mouth I couldn’t resist
@DaveyWavey01 And you keep coming back. Interesting.

@JoeyFoxx haha right..

The character of Santa Claus was derived from the real life person Saint Nicholas, thus the reason he is always depicted mostly as a white male. Now even though "Santa Claus" is not an actual person, he is representative of the spirit of the holiday/season and therefore can be portrayed anyway one wishes. Most people though like and want to hold onto tradition and that is why this is not common practice. As I see it, a person is free to believe in "Santa" in any form they wish and choose...but it is Christmas, and it's not that big of an issue or deal. Why mar the spirit of the holiday with sexism and racism? It is supposed to be a season of peace and goodwill.
rckt148 · 61-69, M
@indyjoe 🤗
Omg .. we're gonna start in on this gender neutral stuff with Santa Claus now?

Who is next .. Mother Nature? Old Man Winter? SMH.

If you are different .. be yourself .. but don't expect the world to pretend what they identify as no longer exists for you to do that.
Dainbramadge · 56-60, M
Santa is a tradition hundreds of years old. Why would anyone want to change it unless it was for selfish reasons???
Dainbramadge · 56-60, M
@JoeyFoxx Ha ha ha!!! That is exactly what I want to know too. Where do we draw the line?
Do we except a drag queen Santa???
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@Dainbramadge I suppose it depends on intent.

There have been many songs over the years about people missing the true spirit of Christmas.

Frankly, I see no need to draw a line so long as the intent is sharing and being with loved ones.
Dainbramadge · 56-60, M
@JoeyFoxx I think the thread was addressing more along the lines of changing the existing traditions.
Kids would never understand why all of a sudden there is a black woman Santa. I think something to that effect would tarnish kids view on the tradition and confuse them.
No matter how the tradition began or was perpetuated it is a holiday revolving around kids. Santa is a major part of the magic that keeps the tradition alive for them.

The Italians have Befana. She's the Christmas witch (well, epiphany but whatever), which is way cooler.
Pherick · 41-45, M
@SW-User Oh thats cool!!! I need to look her up.
Pherick · 41-45, M
Santa is cool, but the real money is on Krampus. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krampus

JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
Santa is the manifestation of the spirit of giving and sharing.

Santa could be an inanimate object.

Or, Santa could be the drunk guy with a dirty red suit collecting money for the Salvation Army.
Wasn’t he based around Saint Nicholas who was an actual person?

Honestly Santa is just everyone's parents in the end so yes Santa could be anything.
SW-User
Let Santa be the classic Santa that we all know 🎅🏻 So what if he looks a certain way? Why would you want to change that?

Enough with the gender craze
bassman09uk · 51-55, M
As long as someone delivers the Christmas spirit and presents, I don't mind who or what they are.
JupiterDreams · 31-35
I prefer Krampus.
Pherick · 41-45, M
@JupiterDreams Great minds think alike :P
Pherick · 41-45, M
Santa is an idea like you said the "spirit" of Xmas. Who cares how they look? If they represent that idea, then go for it.

Honestly, most peoples idea of Santa comes from marketing companies in the 50's anyway, so who cares?
Maximusmax · M
Well if you can't say merry Christmas without offending someone the how many more you hoping to offend especially children with some gender neutral Santa 🤷‍♂️
SW-User
Sorry, Santa Claus, Kris Kringle, St Nick are male, and northern European, simple as that.

Ditto what LionsLair said...
Justenjoyit · 56-60, M
I thought santa claus was real 🙂
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
This seems like a nod towards paganism. Haven't humans advanced at least past this?
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
I dont like the idea of santa at all. He's a cuck
MethDozer · M
Because it's just stupid pandering over non issues.
