What do you think about euthanasia ?

I'm probably one of the most religious persons anyone knows. My ideas are ancient and most people think I'm a religious nutjob , but when it comes to euthanasia, I have to say I somewhat agree with it. At least, I agree that if someone is in excruciating pain and there's little to no hope of recovery, the best thing to do would be to put them out of their misery.

I don't know for sure if that coincides with God's word, but I read the Bible daily and I can't imagine the God of the Bible saying, "no, let that person live and suffer." Idk forsure but the fact is death comes for us all. We all have to die one day. So, the only concern from a religious standpoint whole be whether or not that person has made things right with God before going.

I also can not imagine anyone who would watch their loved one in excruciating pain day after day, with no hope of recovery, and not want that person's pain to end. Let them go be with the lord.

However, i have reservations because I doubt that there are sufficient safeguards in place to ensure it will only apply to people who are terminally Ill and in pain. Also, I fear in the future that in order to control the population, people are going to kill children with mental illnesses and handicaps and old people with dementia.

I have mixed emotions about it and as you said, once you allow it it's a short step towards using it for nefarious purposes such as killing those we feel are to much trouble.

@BalmyNites Based on your perception of abortion yes and the issue with Iceland.
BalmyNites · F
@ravenwind43 I’m not talking about abortion now, I’m referring to the practice of euthanasia being carried out on the wards & in nursing homes within the UK
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@BalmyNites Yes it wouldn't surprise me.
maxeen · 70-79, F
hospice is the closest thing to that..
although it's not immediate..
the meds help in the process
Wiseacre · F
@maxeen it's not euthanasia
BalmyNites · F
It’s not in the future, it’s in the here & now - Iceland have 100% eliminated all Downs Syndrome babies through foetal screening & abortion (just one example).
BalmyNites · F
@Wiseacre Yes, they’ve boasted that they’ve now got nil babies born with Downs Syndrome - otherwise known as social cleansing 😡
Wiseacre · F
@BalmyNites do u consider this progressive?
BalmyNites · F
@Wiseacre I consider it genocide

You have put forth a good argument, that last paragraph says it all. Man is a terrible judge and far too many have evil intent. As someone on the thread has mentioned, it is happening with hideous results.

It's kinda like abortion. Especially when people just do it because they just don't want a pet anymore.

@SW-User low lives can't take care of children!
SW-User
@Wiseacre Yes, they can. They can work.
Wiseacre · F
@SW-User low lives are unemployable!
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
The kids seemed normal to me over there.
I think the yeuth in Asia are pretty smart.

J/k, it should be legal.
Wiseacre · F
I believe ppl have the right to die when they choose..because it's a person's own assessment that his/her life is intolerable due to their grievous condition, whatever it is..therefore, euthanasia should be available on demand.
