I quit Racing to be a Scout Leader and Soccer Coach for my kids. I was spending most evenings and weekends working on my car and racing, and heard myself say "Let me finish this and we'll play" too many times. I loved racing and would get back in a car in a heartbeat, but do not regret being Dad for my kids.

@Ismiles001 Same here! I absolutely love rowing, but I've never regreted having sold my boat and taken care of my lad!

I quit smoking in 2004 because it was bad for my health. I'm a typical ex smoker who thinks smoking is disgusting

I feel it's a pity that you can't continue your hobby, it's a good one.
SAAB71 · 51-55, M
@SW-User I smoked for 6 months when I was at university, but then I started rowing and the smoking had to go. LOL! Rowing was sooooo much better than smoking!
SW-User
@SAAB71 It really is, smoking is stupid and does nothing for you, it's such a waste of time
SAAB71 · 51-55, M
@SW-User Somehow, the media and other people managed to shove the idea that smoking is an elegant act into our weak minds, innit?! I also found myself stupid even when I was smoking!

Can you not re apply yourself on a much more casual basis? Maybe get that son ivolved?
SAAB71 · 51-55, M
@Carla Some of my rowing mates keep sending me messages because even though I'm not tall or extremely strong, they say my stamina compensates for what I lack. I really plan to go back one day. Just don't know when.
Carla · 61-69, F
Don't put it off too long, @SAAB71. Live!
SAAB71 · 51-55, M
@Carla I've been putting it off for quite some time now. Rowing and music, actually...
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Well go back to it !
If you know how it makes you feel why deny yourself that ?
SAAB71 · 51-55, M
@Picklebobble2 And when Brazil are not on the water, I support Great Britain. I was a great fan of Sir Steve Redgrave, Matthews Pinsent and James Cracknell.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@SAAB71 Oh racing is for the crazy ! 🤪
SAAB71 · 51-55, M
@Picklebobble2 It is indeed bonkers! I remember feeling the metallic taste of blood after every single training session!

Mmmmmmm gorgeous legs!!😉
I quit my marriage to save my sanity.
SAAB71 · 51-55, M
@SW-User The funny thing is that I never really thought rowing would give me such strong legs. I started noticing when people started mentioning it.
SW-User
I’m not surprised people mention them ☺️ Maybe take it up again if you love it so. @SAAB71

Drugs and alcohol
SAAB71 · 51-55, M
@SW-User Now, that's great!
SW-User
@SAAB71 not completely dry, but I no longer depend on alcohol to cope with my emotions.
SAAB71 · 51-55, M
@SW-User That's a major victory, lass! Keep it up for your own sake! You deserve it!
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
Why did you have to stop completely?
SAAB71 · 51-55, M
@DearAmbellina2113 1st because I'm paranoid, so if I start rowing again, I get addicted to it in no time at all. Even after all these years, my rowing mates keep inviting me to be on a boat and take part in competitions again. 2nd. Now, I work much farther from the rowing club than I used to. 3rd. I start woring at 6:30 am and my training sessions started at 5 am.
