do Americans have a culture?

do Americans have a culture?my teacher said americans dont have a culture. I mean their own culture something they created. or is that considered to be made by the British because they colonized the area? I thought they do, but I may be wrong. america has a history with cowboys and native Americans even though america was settled by the British people have created things that are unique and not have been created anywhere else.native Americans have their own style of dress same with cowboys.

This is a complicated question, because in truth there are hundreds of cultures in the U.S..

This is further complicated by how large the U.S. truly is. To those from any European country that have not visit the U.S., the size alone can be overwhelming. It was so with my German relatives.

Depending on the route, it can take four to six days of driving at the speed limit to get from one end of the main body of the U.S. to the opposite end. I have done so with appropriate breaks in five days.

Within those 2600 to 3200 miles are numerous cultures. Even the western cultures have different cultures. And the western culture you spoke of most likely doesn't even exist any more. At least the "Cowboys and Indians" culture no longer exists.

You spoke of the British being our culture and a little bit of that may still exist. Yet only in a very limited way in a very few selected parts on the Eastern coast.

What your teacher has not taught you about our culture, nor possibly even know, is all the other countries that has contributed our various areas.

We have French cultures, we have German cultures, we have even subcultures of your own from Ireland. We have Spanish cultures, and Mexican cultures not to mention various kinds of mixes between those two and our native Americans.

We have Czech cultures, Nordic cultures, Korean cultures, Japanese cultures and Chinese cultures even subcultures of Chinese. And least we not forget every African culture on and in Africa.

Now consider this, all these various cultures have mixed. And are still mixing to this very day.

This mixing of cultures IS our culture! It's what makes the U.S. unique!

Hope this answers your question! 😊

Americans have so much culture and if an educator has said differently then please suspect everything that they teach you because it is basic knowledge that every region has a culture.
No country that exists today was the first or origin of culture. Every country exists because of a previous culture that merged or invaded or whatever. Britains history with the US exists and had an impact but the US has had so many influences and as anyone can see are very different cultures. Your teacher sounds like an elitest.
Things that have nothing to do with British culture that impacted American culture:
Several us states were formerly part of Mexico which has left a lasting impact.
Several US states were part of France which has left a lasting impact in those areas. Western Culture which you meantioned, Native American culture, the legacy of African Americans in the South contributed music, food, and culture into America society. US was the birth of gospel, Jazz, banjo

@REMsleep I like this! 👍🏻
@REMsleep I agree I felt stupid because I didn't know how to respond to her shes worse than an elitist, she unfortunately does not appreciate america, me as an immigrant born in another country appreciate it more than her. Im not knowledgeable on history to be able to refute any points she makes. all i know is that we have a culture.

@Girlyfriendcollecting we really do but since America is the great melting pot, our culture is a mixture of other cultures as @REMsleep has so nicely pointed out! Cultures can change from east to west and north to south...and state to state in many cases.

Your teacher is an imbecile.
Never seen a culture so in love with guns. That's a culture.

Nope.

We copy everyone else.

Just like everyone else.
A culture is a way of life so yes they have one.

In school my teacher spoke of how America was founded on European values but lately they have clubs for minorities in their colleges so she said their culture is more extroverted as their country isn’t homogeneous; from what I know USA is all about trucks, guns, BBQs and their eagle
Backyard BBQs, museums, parks, natural areas... Yes consumerism dominates most aspects of society but there are art, music, and community events happening here.
@lovelywarpedlemon [c=#359E00]i doubt about museums and parks[/c]
@YukikoAmagi Doubt about them??
@lovelywarpedlemon [c=#359E00]not originated from america[/c]
Americans invented the internet, FB, YouTube etc and they love big V8 trucks and muscle cars. That's something.
SW-User
@PiecingBabyFaceTogether I can confirm. I do love muscle cars.
@SW-User Nice!
[c=#359E00]basicly they are immigrants from Europe, they don't have something original except what they export from TV and movies nowadays[/c]

I guess it’s multicultural, and made up of so many different cultures, but with the main culture.

Everyone is an immigrant from somewhere. If the British owned American culture by way of colonization, then all culture would by extension be African culture. Which I think would be a silly argument to make.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@Spoiledbrat I was speaking to the original point that because the British came here that our culture is their culture. I have no idea how many generations my family has been here. I am certainly far removed from immigrants myself.
@ViciDraco so native Americans are also immigrants?where would native Americans immigrate from?
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@Girlyfriendcollecting East Asia over the land Bridges. No humans evolved in the Americas.

My point is mostly that culture becomes separate as people are separated by distance and time. Americans are reasonably separated by distance and time as to be recognized as a distinctive culture from Britain.

And in truth, we have multiple cultures within our country as well. The deep South and the Northeast both have similar ancestral links but their cultures are indeed quite different.
