I am a personal trainer. You don't have to be babysat. Just research. Youtube has like a gazillion DIY vids including the how to's and how not to's. That being said, if you feel you need one make sure you check em out first and then go for it.

having a personal trainer isn't just about
being "babysat", if they are a good trainer
they will vary the workout and not only keep
it interesting but keep you interested in
the work out and keep your muscles building
in different ways.

Always had a couple of friends that would add the common sense I was missing.
Actually met them at the gym and got up to a 215 bench press which was good for me.

You could probably save a lot of money if you just research the subject yourself.

I’ve tried but ended up hurting my lower back and right knee I’m too old to not have a babysitter when it comes to resistance training@Wraithorn

Do it! 🤨 You don`t need to be hurting yourself.

Usually, depending on what gym you go to, they will offer a consult before you purchase any training. They are a great idea to help keep you motivated and ensure you won't hurt yourself. They won't babysit you but they will show you proper form and they will also give you workouts that will cater to your specific needs.
