Have you ever given a prospective landlord /employee a bogus reference?

Have you ever got your freind to say they were your former boss/landlord? How did it work out?

My last employer gave me really bad references because they really didn't want me to leave. I only found out a few years into my current job. It made me more likely to give false referees, but I don't think I ever would.
