Have you ever given a prospective landlord /employee a bogus reference?

My good friend from undergrad moved to the US for her masters and a couple of months later applied for a job... she listed me as her former employer
It's sth we did lightheartedly... apparently it worked seeing she got the job :) would I do it again now that I'm older? Probably not.

My last employer gave me really bad references because they really didn't want me to leave. I only found out a few years into my current job. It made me more likely to give false referees, but I don't think I ever would.

Never had to, because I was a good tenant
