Anyone else a Native?

1/4 Seminole here. It is a Florida tribe. The rest is white. I am not ashamed of either, nor do I feel oppressed. You?
LyricalOne · F
I’m from the Yenta tribe. Oy vey, do I feel oppressed. Depressed. Repressed. Compressed. Suppressed. Wrinkled and need to be pressed.

Still can be. But Ok. @SW-User
Great grandma was full blooded Cherokee...
@Experienced33 Thank you for that. My feelings about Trump himself are not partisan. I disliked him when he was an upstart real estate mogul with his father, who refused to rent or sell to blacks. I disliked the comments he made over the years about black people and women. I disliked him when he took out a full page ad suggesting the lynching of five black and Latino men accused of assaulting the Central Park Jogger. They spent time in prison, until DNA testing exonerated them. Then Trump said they should be kept in prison, “if they didn’t do this, they did something else.” Spoken even then like a man with no regard for the 8th Amendment.
I didn’t think George W Bush was a good president. But I never thought he was a racist, never though he hated women, and I did believe, for all his mistakes, he thought he was acting in the U.S.’s best interests and not to line his own pockets. Unlike Trump, Bush divested his business interests while he was president to avoid even the appearance of impropriety. So did his father, and believe it or not, so did Bill Clinton.
@Experienced33 You got it ! 🙂

@ChadFord No, Trump’s a racist, it’s been pretty well documented. Maybe if you were more than just 1/4 that might actually mean something to you. More than bragging rights, that is.

White Native Americans don't face oppression.
indyjoe · 56-60, M
@calicuz Yes they do...mostly by our own.
So far as I know, my ancestry is so white we’re almost blue. I neither know nor care if that’s accurate. It’s so not relevant to me.

You have a healthy attitude and anybody who feels that who our predecessors slept with IS relevant has not been paying attention.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
Elizabeth warren is native
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@MarineBob Warren is as Native as a European.
MarineBob · 56-60, M

FreestyleArt · 31-35, M
My older brother is part Indian blood in him but he never bother to get paid by Indians including casinos. Me I'm just mostly Canadian. German. Irish and whatever it's in me.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
According to a friend of mine who is full Oglala Sioux, only the full bloods are oppressed, specially those that hold onto tradition.
PoizonApple · 41-45, F
@NativeOregonian is it The Sioux Chef, Sean Sherman?
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@PoizonApple No, she grew up on the Rosebud rez.
A: 100% American. Local tribe with ancestry across the Atlantic. No oppression here and no shame besides a chocolate muffin.
PoizonApple · 41-45, F
No but I'm fangirling over an indigenous chef. Does that count?
ChadFord · 31-35, M

indyjoe · 56-60, M
I am mostly Scots-Irish, with a touch of German and Cherokee.
4meAndyou · F
Nope. My family is like Elizabeth Warren's family. My son's great grandmother swore up and down that her husband's great grandfather married an Indian Princess. However, I am into genealogy, and I was able to trace all of my son's very ENGLISH ancestors on that side of the family.
indyjoe · 56-60, M
@4meAndyou Well the first clue was there was never any such thing as an Indian princess Chiefs were leaders but not royalty....
4meAndyou · F
@indyjoe People of the 2nd ex's grandparents generation were born in about the late 1890's or early 1900's. Back in her time, they were embarrassed by intermarriage, so they tried to make it sound special. And...in this instance, it was a false story that someone made up along the way.
goliathtree · 56-60, M
I was born here, yes.

1/4 Cherokee
My maternal grandfather was originally born on a reservation in Louisiana in 1900.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Grandad was Nahua
Bet you’d feel differently if it was more than a 1/4, or if the rest wasn’t white. Just saying.
