Do you think the burqa should be banned in non-Islamic countries?

No, it should not. Burqas are a form of artistic expression and free speech that should be protected in any respectable society. Furthermore, banning burqas pisses off Muslims, and helps foster anti-infidel sentiment.

@BlueVeins you should live in Saudi Arabia.

@JovialPlutonian Saudi Arabia doesn't allow artistic expression either. If this stupid law were passed, we'd all just be stuck between a rock and a hard place.

@BlueVeins so muslims expect another country to allow it but their own countries won't themselves. Yeh good one! What's so artistic about wearing a black bed sheet over yourself?
BlueVeins · 22-25
@JovialPlutonian Many Muslims expect western countries to allow burqas. Many Muslims expect Muslim-majority countries to require the burqa. While there is obvious overlap between the two groups, it makes no sense to conflate them entirely. Muslims hold a variety of opinions on this issue.

That's a fair question. A burqa can be a part of a protest, or a commentary about the West, Islam, and sexual conservatism. It can be used to portray characters and concepts that would otherwise not be possible/practical. They can also be decorated and pretty in some cases.

To be clear, I oppose the primary justifications for wearing a burqa (modesty and safety), but just because I don't like something doesn't mean it should be banned.

@BlueVeins and I'm sure foreign women wouldn't be penalised if they walked the street of Arabia in a bikini, they'd all be accepting even though they don't like it. Come on!
BlueVeins · 22-25
@JovialPlutonian Why would we want to be like Saudi Arabia in that regard? Just because other countries have assinine laws doesn't mean we have to.
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@BlueVeins lol stupid laws but they should keep the burqa because it's so creative 😂😂😂😂
BlueVeins · 22-25
@JovialPlutonian So you're advocating modeling our laws off of foreign legislation that you believe is stupid?
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@BlueVeins no I'm completely opposed to it Including hiding your entire body and face out of modesty. lol there's nothing modest about it.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@JovialPlutonian In society, we allow a lot of speech/art that some people oppose. Christians are allowed to wear crosses even though it might offend some Satanists, Communists are allowed to raise the hammer-and-sickle even though it might offend some gulag survivors, gay people are allowed to do pro-LGBT symbols even thought it might offend some old-fashioned types. I guess my question is, do you oppose offensive speech in general, or just with this one example, and why?
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@BlueVeins what offensive speech was that? I oppose others inflicting pain on ppl for their own selfish interests. Ppl are insensitive towards others and if they can't see how they affect others then they're merely shallow. I don't have time for ppl that don't care for others, it's very simple tbh.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@JovialPlutonian Are you implying that the law should not distinguish between physical pain and mental pain?
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@BlueVeins distinguish all you want, I don't understand your point? Please elaborate:)
BlueVeins · 22-25
@JovialPlutonian Well, you said you oppose inflicting pain on people for selfish reasons. What kind of pain are you talking about exactly, and what kind of opposition do you have?
