Do we have democracy in the UK or a series of dictators who are changed every five years or so?

Is the PM too powerful? Mrs May's announcement that she will ignore what parliament decides about brexit strongly suggests they are.

The people voted to leave and So it is up to parliament to decide on this. If May really is ignoring the will of the people then she is in the wrong

@Qwerty14 It’s up to parliament to decide how we leave. For parliament to decide not to leave would be undemocratic, whatever its other virtues might be.
@MartinII I feel we said the same thing. Yes, as it is a binding referendum (as far as I'm aware) parliament have to go with the vote. If they didn't want to they could have made the referendum unbinding. Me thinks David Cameron wished he'd done that now haha

@Qwerty14 Yes we are in agreement. Legally speaking the referendum was not binding, but everyone at the time said they would treat it as if it were, and both major parties (though not all their MPs) have continued to do so.
@MartinII If it's not binding then they could have ignored it. It was definitely close enough to ignore. The parliament need to use their best judgement on this one

@Qwerty14 Legally they could have done. But everyone had promised that they would respect and implement the result, so not to do so would have been dishonest.
@MartinII The Torys be dishonest? Never lol
