It's sick some get off on it it makes them feel superior.

Shaming others make people feel good about themselves.
@SW-User sad but true
Shaming is for the weak.
Those strong of character assert the message of faith ... children are innocent, pure and respond well to love and joy ... it is incumbent on each of us, to help that happen.
Hearing that, many prefer to be shamed, it is easier

@Phire1 commraderie
By pointing out that I was shamed, I get hugs, kindness, compassion and maybe even help.
Without pointing out the shaming, I have to resolve the underlying issue myself ... lazy people do not want to work ... so, they prefer to be shamed and get the free commraderie

@questionWeaver Interesting. Did you think this was some reverse psychology? No, I think people are within tough situations generally get the "boot strap" analogy...

I think superiority complex explains a lot. So many people need to put down others to feel good about themselves. It's often a sign of weakness, insecurity and their own unhappiness. A strong person observes, tries to understand in broader relations and help.
I don't say we should tolerate and be oblivious to obvious wrongdoings such as drug abuse or reckless sex but if people feel entitled to slap around with their condemning tongues, they should be smart and competent enough to see why all of that happened and offer solutions on how to deal with a new situation.

@CrazyMusicLover Some folks do not want to take the time to understand or even fathom anothers' position in life or how they got there. I agree that some folks put others down in order to feel better about themselves.
I do not think most folks think about new solutions upon Any situation of others'. They seem to generally go on what they've heard from others.
In my opinion, self-determination is one of the keys...

People seem crazier than ever these days while the mental health "experts" are legitimizing many mental illnesses to be "normal"

@Phire1 You can't fix yourself by convincing yourself that you're better than me.

the tradition of criticizing others without facts or merit is alive and well
