Winston Churchill was asked that question at the height of WW2, when Britain seemed to be losing, and his answer was "I turn over, and say 'Bugger the lot of them'".

I usually take a very hot soak in the tub for about 45 minutes to an hour. I darken the room, have only candles lit, I put lavendar oil or rose attar in the water, and then I keep adding hot and cold, and I soak until it is a question as to whether or not I will be too woozy to get out. By the time I get out I am as red as a lobster, woozy, and all I can do is flop onto my towel on the bed and let the fan run on me to cool me off.

It's an exercise in deep relaxation, and because of the heat and the wooziness your concentration is on immediate sensations and preventing yourself from getting heat stroke.
I would talk it out. I would say to myself that it is just one moment in a long day. It is only temporary. I would do something to unwind. Hike. Walk. Yoga. Talk to a friend. Play music loudly. Sing. Drink hot milk before bed. Count my blessings. Bad times don't last.

Usually once I turn onto my left side I fall asleep in less than a minute. Not much prevents me from falling asleep.
