I think I could handle it, the human body amazes me
Deadcutie · 18-21, F
@StormSurge those are difrent, situations..and I’m not saying you can’t, but there is a difrence between cutting open a dehydrated embalmed cadaver, that’s been in a preservative solution tank for 6 months and cutting open a fresh unembalmed dead body. They died tragically , violently. Children, teens, murders, suicides, dumb accidents,
They often don’t look dead . They still have a resemblance of their live selves. Many Don’t even show lividity or smell yet other than shit and urine.. unlike that dehydrated leathery cadaver.
They stare up at you with open or half open eyes, watching you as you watch them..
StormSurge · 41-45, M
@Deadcutie I understand all of that very well, Yes it would be hard but I would want to get to bottom of how they died or to help understand or explain to their family or for evidence.
Deadcutie · 18-21, F
@StormSurge the family, I’m glad I don’t have to go face them....they are often pissed and upset an autopsy even takes place..

GerOttman · 61-69, M
I've been in mourges and an anatomy lab at a medical school. It's just a lump of meat after the spirit is gone.
Nimbus · M
@GerOttman Good point.
yeronlyman · 51-55, M
I did anatomy and dissection for two years with access to 13 cadavers and multiple body parts. You just get used to it fairly quickly as you have to learn

The formaldehyde smell never leaves you. Though did a fresh cadaver course for 3 days and the odour was far worse 😬
Nimbus · M
@yeronlyman Oh my!

Not even close to puking?
yeronlyman · 51-55, M
@Nimbus nope... though after the first practical I couldn’t eat for three days 😬
But got over that quick.

Cadaver anatomy was truly a unique and privileged experience
Nimbus · M
@yeronlyman I'll take your word for it but will still give it a pass, thanks ;)

@Deadcutie OMG!
SW-User
If I had continued on my original career path I probably would have. So maybe. Not sure.
Nimbus · M
@SW-User Interesting.
Deadcutie · 18-21, F
Lol I love how people sanitize it as if it’s a routine doctors office visit. It’s very bloody and gory, violent, and disgustingly undignified. And I’m not even going into the smell of it....
jabbing the eyes and hearing that squish with a syringe to get vitreous fluid..
A very intimate breast, vaginal ,and rectal examination infront of a dozen people, or even 30-40 if a forensic class is observing...

Their shit oozing out, as the clothes are removed.. they pee themselves everytime the coroner pushes down on their abdomen
They flop around arms and legs broken in multiple places, you hear the bones grinding against eachother
They poke the eyes around with fingers.. they measure everything.
And no one goes to the grave without a collection of photos of their nude body
That would make a porn actress cringe and uncomfortable. And this is all before the cutting begins......
SW-User
Yeah. I've witnessed a few of them and I've witnessed a couple of surgeries for my shadowing thing. It wasn't that big of a deal if we're talking emotionally. It was interesting, though.
Nimbus · M
@SW-User I guess you can kinda turn off?
SW-User
@Nimbus I mean, there's really not much of a point in freaking out about it. It's a human body. Humans die.
Nimbus · M
@SW-User Good point.
TexChik · F
I did a summer in a gross anatomy lab , and I got to dissect a body . Head and neck , and thirassic . It was surreal at first , then just information to be learned
TexChik · F
@Nimbus I had intended to go to medschool ... was accepted , and I changed my mind at the last minute and went another way
Nimbus · M
@TexChik I hope you made the correct decision.
Meds has great returns financially.
TexChik · F
@Nimbus at the time they were earning about socialized medicine on the horizon and I didn’t want to be trapped in a profession ruined by socialists . I chose wisely . I do well and I met my hubby! 😁

I have attended maybe a dozen and a half....to preserve the chain of evidence. No bravery involved just a strong stomach.
Nimbus · M
@bowman81 Wow, does it get easier the more you attend?
bowman81 · M
@Nimbus Not particularly. The worst part for me was the odor.
Nimbus · M
@bowman81 Ewwwww :(

pennynoodles · 56-60, F
I know this probably sounds a bit macabre but I would absolutely love to attend an autopsy. Obviously not my own.....
Nimbus · M
@pennynoodles Enjoy, lol.
sighmeupforthat · 46-50, M

@Nimbus you're right ...
Nimbus · M
Degbeme · 70-79, M

JavaJoe · 51-55, M
Since it’s not in my line of work.... no need to!

Vix3n · 36-40, F

Nimbus · M
@Vix3n What was it like?
Vix3n · 36-40, F

@Nimbus i never watch those anyway..
Nimbus · M

Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Yes for school.
Nimbus · M
@Starcrossed A school subject?
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@Nimbus I can't remember which class but a few had autopsy videos. We dissected a few brains.

The museum in Chicago used to have an autopsy exhibit when I was like 10. Family of law enforcement they saw no problem with letting me see it. Of course my dad chimed in that you can't prepare for the smell. And whenever we were at the butcher he'd go "Smells like the morgue" :/
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
Yeah I imagine so.
Nimbus · M
@CountScrofula Congrats, not many can.
Nimbus · M
@Eddiesolds Snap! :)
Eddiesolds · 61-69, M

Nimbus · M
@DDonde Congrats.

oh my, I'd be sick.
TexChik · F
@Nimbus when you’ve studied to the point that you know the tissues microscopically and where they come from embryonically ... macroscopic study is just the next progression. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Nimbus · M
@TexChik I guess so :)
