I have been over payed before
I call social security
I have had them take money back out of my check before too
So I know what I have coming ,I am not spending any increase until I am 100%
sure I am entitled to it .
I tried telling Mom to send Dads check back when he passed ,,
the 1st one he was entitled to ,but he was dead ,mom did not notify them
So when they took it all out of her check at one time ,,she was mad
I tried to tell her ,,if they short you ,its an act of congress to get it right
but if they over pay you
they get it ,,they don't play
I would be calling them asking whats up

@rckt148 I'm not spending it, waiting till I get my bank statement, should get it tomorrow and see who put it there....weird though. Maybe they owed me an earlier check since I just started getting it in May and my birthday was in January

I sometimes forget how I squirrel money away. Here and there. I am always grateful when I need it, and it appears. Wait. If it is a mistake, they will likely find it and reclaim it.

Subtract the extra from your normal check. If they did make a mistake, they will send in a reclamation for it. Call them a nod find out, just to be safe.

You could go into SS office and ask about it. It would be better than them making you pay a penalty for their actions.

No. Just the opposite. I had a check bounce because the bank deposited my paycheck in the wrong account. Oops! At least they fixed everything except my embarrassment.

You could sign into (or sign up for) an SSA account. They'd have the information about ur payments
Leave the extra in, just in case they realize and draw it back out, too...

@HootyTheNightOwl Yeah that's what I'm doing. I believe if it was an error they'll skip a check. Waiting for my bank statement tomorrow.

No but if anyone wants to donate money to my account, I'd be terribly grateful, it's in need at the moment :(

Better alert the bank to it otherwise they'll accuse you of fraud.

@SW-User They can't accuse me if I don't spend it. I'll wait till I get my bank statement. They can always skip a check if they overpaid. I just got my first check in May.

No such luck!
