Ugh, avoid dogs. They're pretty awful, with the one exception of dalmatians.

I have a snake, he's getting old though. I've had him about thirteen years, he's gone mostly blind, but he's otherwise fairly healthy.

Apparently, you are not a dog lover. But all dogs are NOT awful.

Dalmatians are pretty, granted, but they are prone to developing deafness and stomach problems.

The last dog I had before I moved here was a beautiful Boston Terrier. She was sweet, clean, obedient, and quiet (unless the mailman or UPS man came to the door - then you heard her!). Bostons don't smell "doggy" even when they come in from being out in the rain - and they don't usually bite unless they or their owners feel threatened. I miss that baby girl and would get another in a minute if my landlord would allow it.

@MaryJanine You're talking about one of these big eared shit rats? Granted, they're not the worst dog breed, but you couldn't pay me to take care of one.

That's my Bonnie! To each his own - but you never experienced MINE. I would never call her what your definition of Bostons are. Bonnie - and the male I saw one of our neighbors walking. I stopped him and openly admired his dog. He said, "Thank you." Then he looked down at the dog, who was sitting by his side waiting for him to move on, and added, "HE thanks you."

I would never have a snake in my home - my sister, mom, and I were all frightened of them - but, as I said, to each his own.

@MaryJanine There's no reason to be frightening of a corn snake, they're nonvenomous, and they have teeth set far back into their throat, meaning the only way to get bitten is to stick your finger into one's mouth.

And honestly, if you go shoving your fingers into a snake's maw, you deserve to get a bite lol

My older sister was frightened by one of these when she was little and on her way to school. And none of us would shove our fingers into a snake's mouth - or think of it.

@MaryJanine Yeah, I'm an amateur herpatologist and snake enthusiast and even I'm not about to go poking around inside a snake's mouth.

I did get bitten by an Eastern brown once though, that was fun. My heart rate got so out of control that my nose started gushing blood, I was vomiting profusely, convulsing on the ground, by the time someone managed to get me the appropriate antivenin, I was actually frothing at the mouth.

My sister had to drag me to the fuckin' poison control center, probably took a couple years off her life with all the stress it caused her.

Eastern brown? Interesting...is that a version of a rattlesnake? I know they have eastern or western diamondbacks, but not much more about them.

Sorry about your encounter and experience, though. The situation you describe would frighten anybody. You must've had a strong heart.

@MaryJanine They're an Australian snake. I stepped on one while I was running barefoot in a gully, I forgot to put on my boots.

OUCH! And other things.
