More than 50% of the species on earth went extinct because of humans. So are humans as a whole , evil?

You cannot make a comment saying that someone else is cutting those forests and destroying the soil. You still take the blame because you're part of humanity.

If an alien species invaded our planet and decided to study humans , they can ultimately conclude that we are evil just by looking at the amount of damage we did.

But do we feel evil? Are we evil? No we don't because we aren't trying to destroy other species out of pure hate. We do it because of our own selfish reasons - whether it be greed or progress .

So is evil justifiable if your intentions aren't evil in the first place?

Ultimately all of this poses a greater question. What is good and what is evil? How do you define them?

Inherently we are born good, this stems from a our need to survive and reproduce successfully, our "over" developed sentience and curiosity encourages bad habits, such as why find one when I can take yours. These traits can be seen evolving in other species, like lions and monkeys. Just so happens we got to a greedy state first, social condition perpetuates greed from one generation to the next. Eventually it will indeed cause our extinction. Like other apex preditors.

Humans cull other creatures to reduce over population and devastation of other creatures and plants, to preserve the numbers, theres no one to cull us, we will devour the planet and become extinct, if not through war before that happens. The earth will start again.

99.999999% of all species that have ever lived have gone extinct before we even arrived!

I think you meant there are predictions that up to 50% of species could be lost by the end of the century unless action is taken. The point is still valid though. Good vs. Evil is too big a topic but I do know that there are things associated with evil that aren't predicated by hate.

You still take the blame because you're part of humanity.
Taking blame is a waste of time and energy. Responsibility is different, it means doing things to rectify a wrong situation.

Evil and good are human concepts. Who knows if beings outside of earth use the words or care for the consequences.

So is evil justifiable if your intentions aren't evil in the first place?

Everything is justifiable. Not everything is logical.
Miram · 31-35, F
@marcusaurelius I have no idea how that's related to my answer 🤷 I am sure some people can.
@Miram I'm talking about everything is justifiable part.
Miram · 31-35, F
@marcusaurelius Let me rephrase that, you can provide a justification for anything.

justifiable
ˈdʒʌstɪˌfʌɪəb(ə)l/
adjective
able to be shown to be right or reasonable; defensible.
"it is financially justifiable"

Justifiable doesn't mean it is a logical justification or right. It is just showing you are right.
50% is a generalization you can't substantiate. What about all of the species that went extinct before man was ever on earth? How did we get rid of those? And how many species what that??
@Graylight Refreshing--especially on here to find someone to do that with--isn't it? ;-)
Graylight · 51-55, F
@anythingoes477 Indeed it is.
@Graylight I sent you a PM........

Isn't there a line from one of the Matrix movies where Agent Smith compares humans to a virus ?
Probably nearer the truth.
@Picklebobble2 agreed.

Its more like a predatory thing. Biologically being moral and nice doesn't get people too far in terms of survival😂
Graylight · 51-55, F
Not evil, no. But far from being at the top of the food chain, we're really just common parasites.
@Graylight that's exactly what I'm thinking.

The goal of any species is to survive and reproduce NO MATTER WHAT. Since we are at the top, we can live without consequences.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@marcusaurelius We're at the top only so long as we have electricity and shelter. The executive wo back-country camps in the Poconos would die within the day wandering any African country.

Our consequences are coming. Other species are already feeling them - they'll end with our own extinction.

They are extinct, the reason why makes very )ittle difference
It’s not evil yet. But since we now know the impact that what we are doing is having - if we don’t try to stop, then that would be evil, or something to the sort. Evil seems like too strong a word
@Mildreadful we won't stop destroying unless solving the problem is economically profitable.
@marcusaurelius maybe, but that isn’t “humanity” that’s a few people with power. Although whether anyone with their power would do the same thing, idk...

Im not taking credit for that shit.
@Selah then don't use stuff made out of wood , coal ,oil and metal

@marcusaurelius That's not fair. What your hands were on to write your comment is made from petroleum. So no more comments from you, ok? If you do...you're complicit.
@Ynotisay well I'm not denying the fact that I am not to be blamed 😜

If it pleases God then it’s good. If it doesn’t then it’s bad
