More than 50% of the species on earth went extinct because of humans. So are humans as a whole , evil?

You cannot make a comment saying that someone else is cutting those forests and destroying the soil. You still take the blame because you're part of humanity.

If an alien species invaded our planet and decided to study humans , they can ultimately conclude that we are evil just by looking at the amount of damage we did.

But do we feel evil? Are we evil? No we don't because we aren't trying to destroy other species out of pure hate. We do it because of our own selfish reasons - whether it be greed or progress .

So is evil justifiable if your intentions aren't evil in the first place?

Ultimately all of this poses a greater question. What is good and what is evil? How do you define them?

50% is a generalization you can't substantiate. What about all of the species that went extinct before man was ever on earth? How did we get rid of those? And how many species what that??

@anythingoes477 It's a conservative estimate. Believe it or not, science has employed the disciplines of research and counting.
@Graylight I get that---but not all species left fossils---in comparison to how many species ever lived. 50% is a figure out of thin air.

@anythingoes477 We can cross reference existing species that coincide with our time here, trace their evolutionary paths and extinctions, detect the reasons leading to those extinctions and count the remaining species.
@Graylight Still--that is only a guess-----based on a theoretical guess. Science---don't rely on guesses. Generalizations do.

@anythingoes477 Pretty much splitting hairs, aren't we? We are the cause of a far greater extinction rate than if we had never existed. While neither offer a percentage on total extinctions, the below articles examine mankind's impact on the natural biodiversity.

@Graylight I thought I was appreciating someone by playing Devil's Advocate who is actually as intelligent as i am....not splitting hairs. You are an EXTREME rarity here.

@anythingoes477, I think I'm battle-fatigued. 😐

But I'm happy to play devil's advocate any time and welcome the sparring!
@Graylight Refreshing--especially on here to find someone to do that with--isn't it? ;-)

@anythingoes477 Indeed it is.
@Graylight I sent you a PM........
