Did you know global warming is made up?

I know the science behind it all but I am curious if others know about it.

Real science or pseudo science?
S33K3R · 36-40, F
@BlueMetalChick Very real science. It has been known since the 60s. Once they figured out the situation they stopped talking about it because its not good.

@Razorback Aren't you also the guy who attributed a quote about global warming to a German hemotologist who died during WWI and then said he was alive in the 70's and talking about global warming?

@Razorback Because I specifically remember an interaction on SW about climate science and an accusation of a guy during the 70's claiming the world was gonna end in 10 years because of climate change, but when we looked it up, it was a scientist who died in 1916.

LoL interesting topic here

@Razorback I've only been alive since 1994 so I can't speak for anything prior but almost every prediction made by anyone working at my institution certainly has come true, even ones pertaining to my home country.

@BlueMetalChick However as one who lived through the 70s the scare of the time was global cooling. I remember seeing the cover of Time Magazine in 1974 telling us that we were all going to freeze to death. Time Magazine was seen as a great authority at the time. Not like today where they can't give a copy away. Maybe the beginning of their fall was 1974. Coincidence?
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@hippyjoe1955 Uh, duh. Time Magazine is not a scientific authority. They're looking to make money with publicity. You might as well trust Daily Mail for that matter.

I work doing actual research, not publicity stunts for clicks. Climate change isn't my field of study in particular of course but planetary sciences still apply.

@Razorback I have no experience with the world before I was born so why would I pretend I do?

What, do you do that? I should hope not.

@BlueMetalChick Time was not but it quoted lots of 'scientific' papers. Much the same as today. There is the press and there is the science journals. Much of what the press has to say comes from snippets taken from science journals.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Razorback Mostly the FAS, because the majority of what I do is astronomy. So I work with a radio telescope most of the day.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@hippyjoe1955 I seldom if ever trust the press with anything related to science, medicine, or war. Especially if it's corporate media. I know, state-funded media outlets are notorious for their loyalty to the powers that be but corporate media is even worse because their intention is to protect their own social class.
S33K3R · 36-40, F
@BlueMetalChick you support global warming? You study planetary science?
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@S33K3R Planetary sciences are very relevant when you're an astronomer, yes.

@hippyjoe1955
snippets taken from science journals
Isn’t that called Confirmation Bias? Very common behaviour from lay publications feeding off public gullibility.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@newjaninev2 I'd believe it. Especially if it's science that involves something which can be exploited. Researchers work mostly on grant money so it's not like we have anything to gain by changing the outcome of our study. But companies like Phizer or Eli Lilly can make ridiculous amounts of money off of twisting medical science to sell their drugs.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@BlueMetalChick There’s a general principle (I forget what it’s called) that for any headline ending with a question mark, the answer is ‘No’. 😀
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@newjaninev2 Like those clickbait titles on YouTube "Is there a planet-ending meteor on its way to Earth?!"
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@BlueMetalChick Exactly!
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@newjaninev2 My favorite is when they capitalize random words in the middle of the title.
"WHAT did DONALD TRUMP say to IRAN? Will it LEAD America into a WAR???"
S33K3R · 36-40, F
@BlueMetalChick so... Have you learned about solar forcing, the heliosphere waning and how that's letting in more cosmic rays?
