One suggestion would be to heck out a health food store. They may well show you how to begin. You may want to seek gaining Muscle. And if you're on a budjet, ask if they have free trial offers.
I joined a club once. I just wanted to know how to build myself somewhat. I had refused the fee for the "Trainer" because they are hired by the company.
So I began simply asking the people in the place. Questions on how to build myself up. I wanted to increase my sagging breasts, After all they are Muscle. And I was politely told the better machines for me to try. I noticed that in asking a member, they tended to feel honored I chose them for assistance.
Once you build your self confidence a bit, move on to another club, and repeat.

Usually people suggest eating more carbs, or doing it by building muscle mass with protiens.
