As far as I've understood it, it doesn't have to do anything with like, the sexes. It's just a term for a type of gender expression that is often misunderstood by people who don't want to understand it, and blown out of proportion by people who think the idea of gender expression is odd and would rather stick to the strict stereotypes.
They might feel like being more feminine one day, masculine another, and switch things up to match. It's mostly about gender expression, less about what they got in their pants.

@NorthernRoses I have no problem with the style itself. In fact it's cool. But people on sites like tumblr blow it out of proportion and make it a "Valid" gender which I find weird.
NorthernRoses · 26-30, F
@ChiChi93 Yeah, there are a few rotten eggs. I lump them in with the people who misunderstand and take things out of proportion. Those people are also often the kind of people who dislike people for being healthy, positive, etc. and are incredibly self-destructive. You just gotta not to listen to them, and to check on what things actually are all about.
I have seen some people talking about validating genderfluidity. More often than not it's nonsense written by 12-13 year olds (AKA most of Tumblr) who are still working on figuring out who they are and who want to find something unique and special about themselves (AKA almost all early teenagers, making a fool of yourself in middle school is a part of growing up, sadly). There are a few people who ask to be validated in the sense of "these stereotypes exist and few people seem to be doing anything about them, so if I stick to these stereotypes and look like this I guess I'm this now, right?". And I absolutely accept that idea, keeping it like a miniature private revolution against society's gender stereotypes.
Either way, I'll have no issues with it. I believe people need to figure shit out for themselves, and that people should respect that.
Otherwise, you might get another heartbreaking fiasco like this one; just some kid who made a thing, and someone's very cruel response that went viral. Imagine if that happened to you when you were a kid.

I don’t get it. “Today I feel more male so I’ll wear jeans.” Or “today I feel more female so I’ll wear a dress” .... how about just wear what you want and it doesn’t have to be tied to a gender?
Fernie · F
@DaughterOfGone Yes! It annoys me that people insist on putting pink on girl babies and blue on boy babies...so strangers can immediately know what their genitals look like...we are so warped

We shouldn’t encourage mental illness

Just whatever makes them happy really

meh, my only issue with the idea of genderfluidity is that it reinforces the very gender roles that people claim to want to abolish, so it's not really as progressive as it would appear to be
idgaf if people decide to call themselves a boy one day and a girl the next though

@SW-User I agree but I also think that it trivializes real transgender people and their experience.

I switched countries in september and went to France. I still come back English. But tbh imo its everyone to thier own. Be what makes u happy as long as it doesnt harm others.

🙄 a load of bs..
MissMoon · 26-30, F
Don't agree with it or believe that it has enough scientific backing to be proven, but I will try to be nice to people who believe they are genderfluid. I once lost a friend over my opinion on this and they thought my opinion shouldn't be accepted and when I said we should be able to discuss our opinions they were like 'it's not an opinion'. 😓 Goes to show that people on both sides of the debate can be just as bad as each other.

Native Americans believe in 5 genders
Samoans and Indians believe in 3 in each culture
why can't someone change their gender or float in an
undefined space ? people should be free to be themselves
even if others can't put a label on it.

@RoxClymer they are free to be themselves,i am free to form an opinion about it
RoxClymer · 41-45, M
@SW-User having an opinion about it is perfectly ok, having an opinion that leads to harming other people is not
SW-User
@RoxClymer any opinion on anything can lead to harming others
AmbivalentFriability · 26-30
I'm open to the idea of gender (not biological sex) being on a spectrum. Maybe some people aren't on the same place in that spectrum all the time.
Fernie · F
I have no opinion. It's not my business who or what people identify as...doesn't have any impact on MY life
dumpstermeow · 41-45, F
No matter how much I dream about it, I never have had a penis. 😞
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@dumpstermeow Sorry. It seems to be stuck between my legs, because no matter how much I try to visualize living like a woman, it never leaves. So much for fluidity.
MrsKatherineArch · 41-45, F
I don't think you are missing anything @dumpstermeow

I saw a documentary where a girl born a boy started transitioning then suddenly stopped and started to live as a guy and had breast reduction surgery then after sometimes changed her mind and started taking female hormones again 🙄 and he or she was only 17 and her mother was allowing this

Mental disease or infirmity.

It's a delusion.
RoxClymer · 41-45, M
I think one thing that people forget in topics/discussions like this is Evolution, everything about humans has changed and will continue to change, including gender and sexuality.
User41 · 36-40, M
I think how lucky we are that our biggest issues are trying to decide what gender we feel like being on any particular day.
RoxClymer · 41-45, M
another thing that has changed greatly is the population of humans, there are literally 4 times the number of humans on the planet today as there was just 100 years ago, that is 4 times the number of opinions on "What is Gender?"
RoxClymer · 41-45, M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout religious rhetoric only works on religious people, I am not religious, not even spiritual

@RoxClymer is Antony wrong?
Seems like you wanna skirt the issue because a religious person said it.. weak

when the term fluid is used i think of its melting away then growing back
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Well there are some societies where that is a normal. I may not empathize, however I can sympathize. Live and let live
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Fernie Some do. Fortunately not all. ☺️ I most definitely do not approve of some of the negative behavior going on.
Fernie · F
@DeWayfarer enough...too many

@Fernie One bad apple can ruin the whole barrel is how I look at it.

MrsKatherineArch · 41-45, F
While I think experimenting is ok, I am not so sure gender fluidity is real.
Fernie · F
@MrsKatherineArch real? It's real to the people who live that life...it's irrelevant what we think
MrsKatherineArch · 41-45, F
@Fernie And that's why I said "I am not so sure", which means that I don't have sufficient knowledge to make a blanket statement about it either way.
Chickie · F
It's bullshit and a mental illness. Nobody should feel like a boy then a girl 5 minutes later just because they saw a pretty dress.

Not something I really understand. But I do think that if we got away from gender stereotypes people would have an easier time just being themselves rather that trying to fit into some pre-assigned role.
