art has always been about the money
DontMindMe · 31-35, M
Really?

Well, I'm an artist (not professionally trained, I just happen to be good at drawing) and I absolutely love what I do. If I were to get payed to do it? Even better. I'd be earning money for my passion. Think of it as motivation to share it with the world.

I definitely get what you mean. I've noticed this especially in the teen genre, it seems very much like the same cookie cutter plot over and over.
DontMindMe · 31-35, M
Good talk. Best of luck on your art.

Thank you, for the luck and the conversation.

In truth, I don't think I've ever understood what art is or it's multiple definitions ! (Remember the 'interest' in Damien Hirsts 'Half a cow' in a tank of Formaldehyde ?)
I can say I've stood in the V&A in London, seen something highly regarded and thought....."Really ?"
I've also walked across Trafalgar Square and seen and met art students producing the most amazing stuff which they then sell for pennies just to make the rent !

Wise words "...understood was art is and it's multiple definitions"

So true

Art is commission. I buy art from peoplease or have them draw ne things as I don't have that talent. There are some really talented artists in the Philippines
DontMindMe · 31-35, M
But are they truly expressing themselves through their work or are they doing it for money? At what point does it stop being art and become a commedity designed for consumption?
SW-User
@DontMindMe they do pretty good work so it's not all about money but an enjoyment
DontMindMe · 31-35, M
I still just think it's kinda tainted..

They may still enjoy their job, but is it the same?

Does a photographer work the same when they are shooting a wedding as when they are shooting nature for their own collection and portfolio?

Or do they work differently and with more love of the art when they don't do it for money and a job?
unknownpoetx · 36-40, M
no. there's a big difference between art and entertainment.
DontMindMe · 31-35, M
Isn't music and movies art? Writing and singing? Even painters look for big paychecks? Doesn't this taint the experience?
Real art is commissioned...

Capitalism killed pure art
