has money ruined art?

Instead of artists creating to share an idea or view of the world... Don't artists create art for a pay check? Doesn't this lead to us only caring to produce goods to make a product off of? Is all art just products in a market these days?

In truth, I don't think I've ever understood what art is or it's multiple definitions ! (Remember the 'interest' in Damien Hirsts 'Half a cow' in a tank of Formaldehyde ?)
I can say I've stood in the V&A in London, seen something highly regarded and thought....."Really ?"
I've also walked across Trafalgar Square and seen and met art students producing the most amazing stuff which they then sell for pennies just to make the rent !

Wise words "...understood was art is and it's multiple definitions"

So true
