I Like to Travel Alone

I know that seems strange for a single woman to travel the world alone, but I actually prefer it. I get asked all the time if my friends can travel with me. The only advantage is that it can save money. They feel safe with me because they think I know what I am doing.

I have only found 3 women I enjoyed travelling with. One I am still friends with, the other hasn't travelled with me since our trip to Paris and Rome. I almost left one woman with the Bisons in Custer National Park.

It can ruin the whole trip if you are not compatible. My son refuses to travel with me. He calls my trips "Death Marches". My sister will just refuse to take another step. We find a beer garden for her and come back and get her.

I like to move with intent. I cover a lot of ground when I go. You have to keep up if you travel with me.
Travelling light, without a partner or a schedule is often so much more rewarding.

@SethGreene531 I so agree
Dv8rs · 18-21, F
Why not? That sounds like a great way to see everything you want to see, and not see things that you don't. Wise decision, I see some great "Life Marches" in your future.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Dv8rs I like that...Life Marches!!

I'm like that if a museum is involved. Long ago I was stationed in Sicily. The lady I was living with needed to go to her embassy in Rome. She dropped me off in front of St Peters that morning after driving from Naples. She knew I'd be geeking out in the Vatican museum.

@Crazywaterspring did you go up above the Basilica? there are gold letters about 6 ft tall. we went all the way to the cupola. amazing
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
@akindheart I was by myself. No tour guide.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Crazywaterspring we started out with one, me and oceandock...ended up at the top
You had me at "Death Marches" 😂
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Slade oh wow!!! neat
Slade · 56-60, M
@akindheart he had a full crop of blond hair. This was right after the Steelers cut him
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Slade i had NO idea.

Hell I just want to get to the point where I can travel lol.
That being said, I'd probably want to travel with someone if I could. I'm already alone enough and for me if would make the experience more fun.
Then again, some people....😁
akindheart · 61-69, F
@ravenwind43 believe me I know...

I hear you..Travelling with my wife was always "a challenge". Lets just say she is Scottish and let it go at that.. And now, she cant go much further than coffee at the local shopping mall where its all familar. Travelling alone immediately lifted a weight off me of having to manage her. I did a couple of trips with my son, which were fine since he didnt want to hang with me, and I found my own level and settled in immediately. The advantages to me of accompanied travel were simply having someone to point out an attraction to and share the sights with, and of course if you are on something like a cruise ship, travelling alone can often mean paying double..😷
akindheart · 61-69, F
@whowasthatmaskedman I usually travel Globus who waives the single supplement or just pay it on Gate!. Cruises are horrible because they do charge double.
I am taking 3 trips with this lady i met in Ireland and i am worried that we are not going to get along..I wanted to kill the lady that came withme to South Dakota...I get you loud and clear.
Busybee333 · 31-35, F
Amazing! Always wanted to do a great big world tour! Keep doing what you love, the way you love it! 😎
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Busybee333 plan it out...make it happen.
MountainMonk89 · 51-55, M
There's traveling with just the right partner, or traveling alone. There is no middle ground in my view.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@MountainMonk89 EXACTLY...i have an older lady who is 78 yrs old. she likes to gamble. I don't. We have worked it out that she does her thing, I do mine..and we get along
Idontdomornings · 31-35, M
I've never minded travelling alone and you can always find interesting people to talk to. I did this on holiday in Europe, knowing I wanted to travelled gave me the incentive to learn a couple of new languages.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Idontdomornings My son lives near the German border...I sincerely tried to learn that stinking language...I took French and Spanish all through college..
Slade · 56-60, M
@akindheart Dogs, especially police dogs, are trained in German. Gutteral sounds are visceral which work perfectly
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Slade my son has this annoying bull dog. ihad to learn "Get Down" in German..

@akindheart weirdest thing was when I went to Paris for Christmas. And we went to this beautiful music concert in this gorgeous church Christmas Eve night and the guy in front of us just filmed the entire thing from start to finish. He literally only lived the experience through the lens didn’t look up or live in the experience for ONE SECOND. It was terrifying.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@SW-User I almost killed a lady I was in South Dakota with. she got mad at me because i didn't want to take a pic of a fake ass bear on a sign...i hear you
SW-User
@akindheart I can understand wanting to capture stuff but the best moments are all in our heads
Just saying that doesn’t sound super relaxing to me…
akindheart · 61-69, F
@southerngent beer garden for you..
@akindheart now we’re talking.
Flipper111 · 51-55, M
How are the alps?
Did you get to ZerMatt? ;)
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Flipper111 the Alps are beautiful. been to them and through them. Isee Zermatt in October
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
I have done that a lot but not anymore and I like it this way now.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Donotfolowme I prefer to save money but if it means a miserable trip, i would rather go alone
