Road Trip update #4

Travel day from the big “D” to Corpus Christi TX. Had a fender bender in a construction zone in Austin. I got rear ended by a Lexus that took the most of the damage.

How do you like the Buick?

@swirlie It’s nice for traveling and has a smooth ride. I really like it but after driving a Ram 2500 it feels like a kiddie car.

How do you like the map display? Is the screen mounted horizontally or vertically?
SageWanderer · 70-79, M
@swirlie It’s horizontal but don’t use it that much. Mostly drive the car on local trips and use the truck and camper on road trips usually. This was kind of a spur of the moment decision.

I like the fact that it has a smooth ride. Not many do these days. I find the typical horizontal map displays to be somewhat useless if you're trying to navigate with it. Where you are going is straight ahead, not sideways.

To use a horizontal presentation only shows you the roads off to the left and right but shows you nothing in detail in terms of street names that are straight ahead of the car that you may be looking for.

I think the Dodge Ram has a vertical display which shows everything in detail ahead of you and I also think the new Mustang EV has a vertical display as well.

@swirlie I got a basic Tradesman package so use the cell phone it tablet for navigation, or even old school maps.

I think old school maps are great! I still keep a bunch in the seat pocket for when I really need to see where I'm going!

@swirlie There is so much road construction in the cities here in Texas that the GPS guidance isn’t accurate.

I subscribe to a GPS updating service which costs me $100 per year and it automatically updates if construction or a road closure suddenly happens, then it offers an alternate route. Invaluable tool and worth the price.
