About 20 years ago right before Xmas, we had a flight to NYC and then on to California. We sat on the tarmac for our first hop for 3 hours, then they cancelled the flight, sent us home, and said come back in 24 hours.
Came back next day, flight greatly delayed. Asked about the connecting flight across the country, they said no prob. Got in to NYC past midnight, too late for any flight across the country. We said, "OK, what about in the morning?" Some kindly person advised us "get out of NYC. Take a plane to anywhere past this weather!" I think we landed in Austin TX about 4 AM, and finally reached California about 60 hours after our originally scheduled arrival.
Oh, and did I mention our two small children aged about 4 & 6 who endured all those delays with us??

@BiasForAction Thanks for BC! Those holiday travel days can be murder!! The airline was Jet Blue. They refunded the cost of the flight, and we still use them occasionally. I used to try and boycott all the airlines that annoyed me, but I ran out of airlines😂
By one day but the worst was probably left sitting on a plane during a snowstorm because apparently the pilots kept being told that eventually we’d be cleared for takeoff. Which we were after 6 hours and 2 de-icings. 🙄🤬

Ugh.... Been there. I had one flight that was suppose to be wheels up late afternoon like yours, but didn't get off the ground until the next morning.
But, because they kept saying new departure times all night long, we had to stay in the airport all night instead of going to a hotel. 🙄

About 8 hours...plus one that was completely cancelled and I had to go the next day....also a missed connection and the airline paid for an overnight hotel....
BiasForAction · M
@fun4us2b how was the hotel ?
fun4us2b · M
@BiasForAction It was adequate, a Holiday Inn in Fort Worth...and the timing wasn't terrible...I was traveling alone and was able to get work done...

I had a flight from Reagan in DC to Houston, scheduled for 6:00 pm. The flight in was late, and we weren't able to take off by the 10:00 curfew. The crew had to get to Houston, so they found a plane in Baltimore. Those of us who wanted to go were loaded onto a bus and sent to Baltimore. We boarded and probably got into the air by 3:00 am. That led to a shared limo with an old astronaut to get to our cars near NASA.

Once, in the UK, when Moses was a dispatcher, our flight took off and almost immediately turned around and landed. “Mechanical problems.”
Eventually it was postponed for 24 hours, then cancelled completely. I arrived at the home airport 2 days and 11 hours late.

Four hours due to fog. Worst four hours of my life
BiasForAction · M
@Wizardry I’ve been in a fog for four hours. Often. I call it Monday.

Last time I was on airplane was back in 1999 or 2000
BiasForAction · M
@HumanEarth no way! You seem like a traveler

I won't fly, I don't like it
Domestic or international?

@BiasForAction Silver linings. Not sure which airline it is but considering the long delay I’d be trying to negotiate that at least!
BiasForAction · M
@Notladylike storms — I don’t blame the airline
@BiasForAction Yeah it’s that sort of stuff that can’t be controlled and better to be safe then sorry. Enjoy the 🥃
