About 20 years ago right before Xmas, we had a flight to NYC and then on to California. We sat on the tarmac for our first hop for 3 hours, then they cancelled the flight, sent us home, and said come back in 24 hours.
Came back next day, flight greatly delayed. Asked about the connecting flight across the country, they said no prob. Got in to NYC past midnight, too late for any flight across the country. We said, "OK, what about in the morning?" Some kindly person advised us "get out of NYC. Take a plane to anywhere past this weather!" I think we landed in Austin TX about 4 AM, and finally reached California about 60 hours after our originally scheduled arrival.
Oh, and did I mention our two small children aged about 4 & 6 who endured all those delays with us??

@BiasForAction Thanks for BC! Those holiday travel days can be murder!! The airline was Jet Blue. They refunded the cost of the flight, and we still use them occasionally. I used to try and boycott all the airlines that annoyed me, but I ran out of airlines😂
