Do people still hitch rides?

Or do people still pick up hitchhikers?

@nobodyishome I don’t think it happens around my town,
nobodyishome · 31-35, F
YES.

THEY ALWAYS ASK WHERE WE’RE GOING.

I ALWAYS SAY REGRET.

Theres too many motorways to by pass towns nowadays
So you dont see many hitchhikers anymore
lauranne · 22-25, F
People still do! Hitchhiking is still an option if you don't have much cash
4thdimensiondream · 70-79, M
@lauranne I am surprised. You’re not afraid?
lauranne · 22-25, F
@4thdimensiondream there's always a risk. One should not just accept any ride
4thdimensiondream · 70-79, M
@lauranne I know it was a thing to backpack across Europe. But I just think it kind of stopped here in the states but then again I only know what I see in my town.

I tried back in the 90s and I got fine.

Car broke down on the hwy and I was just trying to get a ride to the nearest phone for help. Cops pulled up and said its against the law, impounded my car, give me, give me a ride to the off ramp and left me still left me walking
Akimbo75 · 46-50, F
@HumanEarth That was so helpful of them
HumanEarth · F
I was in Utah on hwy 175 and I lived in Wisconsin and knew no one in Utah. Fuckers made me instantly homeless without shelter
4thdimensiondream · 70-79, M
@HumanEarth that’s so wrong.
Birdbox1986 · 36-40, F
I think with uber or something similar there’s no hitchhikers anymore and people have enough money to get uber
Birdbox1986 · 36-40, F
@4thdimensiondream yes whether on welfare or homeless or through public trustee nearly most people have a $1, I may not get a lot over $200 a week, from the public trustee but it’s enough for me
4thdimensiondream · 70-79, M
@Birdbox1986 Uber is not so cheap here in US.
Birdbox1986 · 36-40, F
@4thdimensiondream it’s not cheap here I used to be able to get it when I was getting my full pension but now it is handled with a public trustee officer and now I can’t get it back so I have to live on over $200 a week and a monthly phone bill of a $100
auris · M
Yes but it is quite rare
I see it occasionally but not like it used to be. More dangerous now.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
I hitchhiked all over America when I was in college 1968-72. A great way to travel back then. Haven't done it since.
TheHammer · M
There are some long empty roads around here. So anyone walking is going to be walking for a while.
Anyone I see walking, I pick them up.
Is that still a thing?
4thdimensiondream · 70-79, M
@legalboxers exactly
Last time I did it I was 14... I don't know if people still do it, but I don't advise or recommend doing so. 😯
