Waverly Paddle Steamer is the world’s last seagoing paddle steamer.

1947 June 16 Waverley’s maiden voyage
1974 The end of her working life, she was famously gifted for £1 to the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society. Waverley Steam Navigation Co. Ltd., a charity registered in Scotland, was set up to own and operate the ship. Waverley then began a second career as one of the country’s best-loved tourist attractions. Since she has been in operational preservation, she has carried over 6 million passengers from over 60 ports around the UK.
2003 saw the completion of a £7m Heritage Rebuild which returned Waverley to the original 1940s style in which she was built.
2020 May She was relaunched after the boilers were replaced.

@1234cardiff Verity by Damian Hurst
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@1234cardiff It depicts a pregnant woman holding the scales of justice while elevated on a pile of law books. Damien Hirst describes it as a modern allegory of truth and justice. The pose seems to reference Edgar Degas' Little Dancer of Fourteen Years.

But as I explained to my seven year old niece last summer, you should never treat books badly by standing on them, even if you are a 20 metre steel and bronze allegory 🤨

Did you take a trip to Lundy today?

Lovely, what is with the pregnant female statue,?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Bleed that is amazing. The original image had a scale behind her, possibly scales of justice given the sword.
Bleed · 41-45, F
