If you intend to travel to the USA...

Do *not* take your normal phone or tablet or laptop or digital camera - be prepared to be forced to hand over access details to allow any digital device to be searched and used to find any shred of evidence to use against you (ie. a reason to deny you entry).

Apparently if you refuse to hand over access details you get immediately deported. 8-)

If you want to take a device, ensure it's 'clear'. Get another phone to use just for travel and leave your normal device(s) at home preferably. Or don't take a phone at all and just get a pre-paid one in the USA. Put a clean memory card in a camera. Protect your data and privacy of it by not bringing it with you.

Also be prepared to be forced to hand over access to any email accounts (even your work ones) and/or social media accounts (like for here). Simply just don't admit to even having social media is probably better.

These onerous rules are dissuading Australian academics from accepting invitations to speak
in the US.
Many more people will no longer go to the US for the reasons you outline.

I'm not traveling back to America any time soon.

Rather travel in my own country instead
Im not going back to the US under the current regime. It was easier to get into China.
It'd be less hassle getting into North Korea at this stage ffs

@soccerboyscott So you are claiming none of that is occuring? Vetting visitors to the USA like they are applying for a security clearance at the border?
