What's the furthest you have travelled for a sporting event

I was going to say football but it could just as easily apply to any sporting event.

In the 90s my brother and I travelled up to Middlesbrough for a football match only to find the match had been cancelled before we got there meaning we had to turn around and come home again. We went back up the following week and the match was played.

I once flew from Exeter to Glasgow to compete in a gymnastics competition.

@SunshineGirl Exeter are playing football here in Peterborough as we are writing. That's what prompted me to ask the question.

@Jacko1971 Exeter used to be the HQ of Flybe and had excellent aeroplane links across the country. It's not so convenient to travel to and from the south-west these days.

@SunshineGirl Bristol is the nearest airport.

@SunshineGirl how did you do in the competition?

@Jacko1971 The day got off to a bad start when the bag with my leotards got left in Manchester . . but managed to recover and placed 5th out of 30 for my floor routine.

@SunshineGirl all's well that ends well. Were you part of a team?

@Jacko1971 We travelled as a group but competed individually. Just as well as my replacement kit was nothing like the original.
