Nice. The general spirit of the place is supposed to be really pleasant. It looks nice too.

I always drive by signs to Cirencester. Had no idea it's in The Cotswolds.

@Matt85 The Cotswolds is a vast area , roughly 90 x 75 miles . Cirencester calls its self ‘ the capital of the Cotswolds.

The Cotswolds are a beautiful area.

It is also the source of the River Thames although why they define that by a small, dry doline right on top of the plateau, instead of a spring at the foot, rather puzzles me! It might be on the watershed, perhaps.

I sometimes use the Fosse Way as a scenic but also more direct route for some of my journeys, running more or less along the hills from SW to NE.
Been to Blenheim palace before- nice place and great grounds, also had the pleasure to stay at The Bear in Woodstock before!

@BritishFailedAesthetic
one of lots of great pubs in Woodstock .
@devonman I spent the night there (even better) I tried their "own" beer which was really nice too, not sure if it's still on tap.

I love the Moggy Minor!
supersnipe · 61-69, M
@ArtieKat My Dad drove them for about ten years. One of them was a 'Traveller' (woody). Green moss used to grow in the felt runners of the sliding rear windows. They were very good cars - not the best ride but tough and dependable little vehicles.

@supersnipe When I was about 18 or 19 I used to work for a local butcher a few days a week. On a Tuesday and a Thursday I had to go to the abattoir in a Moggy 1000 van - slightly darker shade than the one in your picture - and collect whole sides of pork and lamb. No refrigeration, but the van did have a washable floor which I then hosed down afterwards lol. Those were the days!
I lived in Woodstock, Oxfordshire until I was 10. My grandma still lived there until 3 weeks ago when she moved into a sheltered home for old people. I used to watch that bridge so many times over the years.

I’ve been to other Cotswolds on holiday as well.

"But what good came of it at last?"
Quoth little Peterkin.
"Why that I cannot tell," said he,
"But 'twas a famous victory."

Robert Southey wrote this poetry named After Blenheim

Is that the same Blenheim , please?
devonman · 61-69, M
@Domking The palace is named after the 1704 Battle of Blenheim. It was originally intended to be a reward to John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough for his military triumphs against the French and Bavarians in the War of the Spanish Succession, culminating in the Battle of Blenheim. The land was given as a gift, and construction began in 1705, with some financial support from Queen Anne. The project soon became the subject of political infighting, with the Crown cancelling further financial support in 1712, Marlborough's three-year voluntary exile to the Continent, the fall from influence of his duchess, and lasting damage to the reputation of the architect Sir John Vanbrugh.

@devonman Thank you for the details.
I also see that prime minister Sir Winston Churchill was born in this place and he was the 7th Duke of Marlborough.
