In a van. With my son who was 7 at the time. It was the most challenging/rewarding year of my life. I miss the road and once he's grown I'll likely head out again full time.

It’s on the bucket list. With the expected changes in my life it could become a reality.

I think I would be fine with it as long as someone else was doing the driving

@Musicman My parents had one for a while. My dad did all the driving. But really Mom would rather stop and eat in a restaurant instead of having to cook along the way--she said if she had to cook it wasn't really a vacation. And my dad did eventually get tired of driving the thing. It was handy when they were transporting me and all my stuff to college. Just carry clothes from one closet to another, already on their hangers.
@Poppies There is a book called The Next Exit. It goes by State and has every major highway listed by exit in order. Then it lists all the restaurants and services on each exit. When we decide we want to eat out my wife will look ahead on the highway we are on. When she finds the exit with the appropriate restaurant we pull off. All we need is a big parking lot. We tow a car. I can have it unhooked in under a minute and we are off. We definitely enjoy eating out too.

Nope, I like room service.

No. I would just drive my vehicle cross country and take my dogs likely too. My old friend, Demorcan, from EP traveled in an RV across the states. He was a good man. And he messaged me every few months with tales of his travels. Rest in peace, Demorcan. I miss you still.

I've traveled across the USA 2 times and across Canada at least 8 times. But I've never done it in an RV - too expensive to run, too particular on where to park - have to have reservations. It would be nice to be 'at home' the whole trip though!
LamontCranston · M
Have driven across country but not in an RV.
LamontCranston · M
@Musicman some visites to family; some state capitols, as i mentioned; some delving into Americana.
@LamontCranston How long did you spend on your trip?
LamontCranston · M
@Musicman It was a ten day trip from new England to Washington State, with a dip down to Colorado.

My friend did it and we chatted multiple times a day during her trip.
I get it. You get to pull up to a beach or a nice spot in the mountains... all is great.
But then you got to dump your crap at dumping stations. Take care of flat tires. Drag a car with you (if you have a big RV). Drive like a truck driver. Finding free sites. Parking remotely but people try to break in when you're in the vehicle. All of the expense...
Plane/Train/Automobile + Airbnb/Hotels across the country. That's what I'd do.

Made the trip cross country a number of times...but not in an RV. Might be fun to try it.
Sevendays · M
Not all the way but it is on my list.
Carissimi · F
No. I wouldn’t enjoy it.
